Question about Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS Receiver

My Garmin GPS has gotten wet

My garmin GPS (along with my camera, and mp3 player) were in my bag when a soda had burst inside the bag as well. I am attempting to dry them out, but I would like to know what hope I have of my GPS working after this. Any information you can provide will be appreciated. Thank you.

Reasonably well, actually. If the soda was DIET, you're in fairly good shape, as sugar complicates the process. Either way, you'll need to disassemble the unit... carefully!... so as to expose the inner circuitry. Be careful not to break any wires; things in there can be quite delicate.

Once inside, disconnect battery!

If there's sugary soda inside, gently and thoroughly rinse under a lukewarm faucet. This will NOT hurt the electronics any more than they're already hurting, and is absolutely necessary if you have any hope whatsoever of repairing this.

If there's diet soda inside the device, I recommend the same, though it's not quite as critical.

After thoroughtly rinsing and and all soda from the device, gently shake the excess water into the sink as best you can, then position the devie in front of a fan for an overnight drying session. Be sure to allow ample time to make absolutely certain that all water has been evaporated away by the blowing air. DO NOT USE A HAIR DRYER AT ANY TIME !!!!

Once dry, re-assemble and pray for the best! Caution! Be sure you've given the fan ample time to dry the device completely! Err on the side of caution by leaving it there longer than you think you need to !

Why can't I download maps?

Garmins can only be updated by connecting it to a computer. To connect the Garmin 255w you will need a usb cable. If you don't have one that came with it you can check all your other electronic devices like camera, camcorder,mp3 player etc..( my mp3 player usb cable worked fine). Carefully and gently try each one. One you get a usb cable connect it directly to a usb port on your computer and not thru a usb hub. then go over to the Garmin site and register the unit and download Garmin updater to update your unit. I am attaching the Garmin link for you. Thanks for using FixYa

Nuvi 660. cannot get voice. have tried resetting, muting and unmuting, and changing languages..

Try updating the device at the Garmin website. You will need a usb cable to connect to your computer.
If you don't have a usb cable for the Garmin you can try one from a camera, camcorder, mp3 player as long as it fits into the mini usb port on the Garmin. You will need to also download Garmin updater. The software updates usually fix these odd problems.

What do i do when the garmin quit talking

Go into the settings and to voices and try another voice. Also should register your device at Garmin and update your software. You will need a usb cable for the Garmin, if you don't have one try a usb cable from a camera, camcorder or mp3 player etc..
You can also try a hard reset of your GPS. Hold the bottom right side of the screen and turn the GPS back on. It will make you confirm you want to reset. You may likely loose all you favorites and destinations.

I have attached the link to Garmin to get you started.

Nuvi garmin gps got wet accidentally

Try putting it into a ziplock bag with silica gel packs or else uncooked rice. This might wick more of the moisture out. If it doesn't fix it, you'll have to send it in for service.

Use the USB cable supplied with your Garmin GPS and plug the small end of the cable into your GPS and the other end (USB plug) into any USB port on your PC. Windows should detect the USB device and now show the Garmin GPS as being a removable drive in your Windows directory. All you have to do is locate a MP3 file on your PC and drop and drag it into the drive number that WIndows has assigned the GPS. You can also right-click on the MP3 file, select "COPY" and then click on the Windows drive number assigned to the GPS, go into that directory and right-click "PASTE" to copy the MP3 file to the GPS. The GPS will only play "TRUE" MP3 files.
