Question about Projection Televisions

HDTV Projection monitor will not power on

Pioneer SD-643HD5 I just spent 7 hours replacing the STK392-110 semiconductors with the upgraded STK392-180, as recommended by Fixya to cure my convergence issue. Plugged the set in, tried to power on; the green light flashes on for just a moment, then the set goes to red light standby mode.

I found the problem: Blown FU303 fuse, located about the middle of the center circuit board. Tried replacing the fuse 3 times. Found a suggestion on another chat that recommended increasing from a
4 amp, to 5 amp fuse(125 v). That seemed to do the trick. Set works fine now. Thanks for all of your help at Fixya!

Problem solved. With the set plugged in(but in stand by mode) I took the back off. There are two LED on the left board that, if on, identify a problem. The D111 LED was on. I traced it to a blown fuse-FU303 which is the center fuse, about the middle of the center circuit board. I tried replacing the fuse 3 times, after each, it would blow. Another chat section on your site suggested using a 5a(up from 4a) fuse; that fixed the problem. The set works great. Your IC fix worked fine, although getting the boards out  was quite a chore. Your link to the instructions on how to R/R the IC chips was invaluable, and the set of instructions on the process was very complete and well done. Thanks for all of your help!

I have a 64 inch hdtv pioneer projection monitor sd-643hd5 and it won't fit into my basement. What can I do? Thank You In Advance, Bruce Morash

Ha Ha, I had the exact problem. I think mine is the same model of TV as well, I have a 64" Pioneer made in 2003. So my TV would hit the slanted ceiling above my stairs as I tried to move it down. I first took off the wheels of the TV and this helped but it was not quite enough. So since the bottom of the TV is flat with exception of the side boards and the front trim. I removed the front trim temporarily and cut off the side boards with a circular saw till even with the flat bottom. This gave me 2.5" more clearance which was enough to fit the TV downstairs. Hint if you scribe the cut line with a utility knife it will reduce chipping.

Convergence board cracked?

Once the board is cracked it is no longer repairable (even if it's a tiny crack that may not appear to interrupt any connections), and you would have to replace the complete board. Any attempt to repair or continue using a cracked board may cause more damage to the entire unit. You can find a replacement digital convergence board for a model # SD-643HD5 from this major Pioneer parts distributor at the following link:

Yes a simple cable will do it. Look for a converter designed to display a computer vga on an HDMI jack. I have one, and would expect it to work in reverse. My cable has a male VGA like a computer monitor cable.

Pioneer SD-643HD5 does not power on

i had the same problem and it was the flyback transformer on the power supply board.it cost me $375 for the board.just make sure you ground yourself because the static electricity could fry it all.when unplugging the cables mark them and be careful.use a jewlers flat head scewdriver to unlock the cables.use a can of compressed air to clean off the dust.
