Click on the "System" folder in the "Performance and Maintenance" folder. Click on the tab titled "Hardware." Click on the box that says "Device Manager." Click on "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers." Right-click on the device that prompts Windows XP to display Code 28 (it should be Windows Sound System Compatible Driver, also called the WDM driver). A drop-down menu will appear. Click on "Update" and an Update Wizard will guide you through the installation of a new device driver, which should stop Code 28 from appearing on Windows XP.

Audio device driver not works..... *code 28 I reinstal W98SE and download driver FTS_SoundIntel®AC97SigmaTelCodecWin98SE__1002776 instal it but it dont work properly I need PCI multimedia audio device...

It seems that the driver you installed is for windows 98, and if you are using windows xp or vista, you must download a compatible driver for it.

Beacause every operating system requires a driver compatible with it.

Install the driver

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to install the driver.
