Question about Kenwood KDC-MPV622 CD Player

1 Answer

Volume control not working

Stays at same volume when trying to raise or lower; also lowers when trying to raise, raises when trying to lower, etc. Seems like contacts are dirty? How can I clean them?

You need to open the face up by removing the small screws.. use some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab to clean it.

OK great, but what exactly do I clean? There doesn't appear to be any contacts. Do I just clean this lens in the center?

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 30, 2012

thats not a lens its a small light and no not that.. using the picture you have above notice the plastic wheel that turns to adjust the volume ?? its called a variable resistor. notice the metal contacts that connect to the board ? thats what you clean and also if you resolder the contacts its even better, just heat it and add some solder to it.

OK, I did both - cleaned all 5 contacts (in the photo above, there are 3 contacts at 3 o'clock, 1 at 7 and 1 at 11 o'clock. I resoldered the 3 at 3 o'clock, and cleaned all of them. It didn't seem to help. Any other suggestions?

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 30, 2012

yeah there is one, the one i was hoping it wasnt,, the variable resistor is just a resistor that you can adjust the voltage on hence its great as a volume contoller. The problem is the inside of it often gets corroded or the contacts bend or break (yes the inside of the plastic thing).. I have sucessfully on occasions managed to take it apart (unsolder it first then disassemble it. clean it, resolder the broken contacts or straighten it) and in some cases it was to bad to be repaird and if i could get an old one i would replace it or had to end up buying a new face or a new radio.. In your case i would suggest you prepare to get a new face or replace the system.. and then try to fix it, if it works your set if not well you were prepared for the worse anyway.

btw taking it apart ofen reguires epoxy to reassemble it as someof the plastic pins holding it together gets broken.

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 30, 2012

ps it can also be a potentometer but more than likely variable resistor. but in any case the same applies.

  • eric_nevel Dec 30, 2012

Well, i was planning on replacing it anyway.. let me see if i can take it apart and bring it back to life. Thank you for your help

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 30, 2012

no problem,, I'll be online if you run into any hurdles let me know..

  • eric_nevel Dec 30, 2012

I don't do electronics, but with your help, I think I fixed it. I de-soldered the var. resistor without destroying the pcb, took the resistor apart, ensure the contacts actually made contact, smeared around some of the contact grease, and reassembled. I thought I had ruined it (resoldering wasn't pretty), but the volume seems to work great now. Thanks so much for your help!

Why can't I raise or lower the deck?

Sounds like you have jammed linkages which raise and lower deck, you can try this which usually works best with assistant.
With engine off, shake the deck vigorously (up,down, back and forth) while try to raise deck with lever.
Check for worn or damaged arms, springs, deck mounting points, etc and repair or replace.

I have a 6th generation iPod Nano. This is the fifth one I've had and they all have had the same problem. At some point (usually after I've had it about a month) it starts to turn the volume down...

The only thing I can think of is that maximum limit has been set low and is somehow lowering itself. To set the maximum limit

On the home screen, tap settings
Tap Music, then tap Volume Limit
The volume limit control will then come up to raise the limit move the slider all the way to the right.

If you want to stop the volume limit moving you can put in a passcode by clicking on the Lock Volume Limit and entering a passcode (I'd just put in 1234, so you can remember it easily(

Hope this helps.
