Open Question

I have a pro com md5tpa-bb heater. I am using LP gas and I followed the convertion instructions. the heater worked fine for about 1 month. Then when the heater was lite the pilot ligth would burn perfect as long as it had lp gas but when the inferred bricks lit weather via thermostat or manual the flames would rush out of the top of the heater. also would flutter vary bad pop back and try to burn at the burner orfice is. What could be wrong?

SOURCE: pilot lights but when ignition pops back up the flame goes out

will either be the unitrol control box or the thermocouple, when you push down you are holding two magnets together and waiting for a small charge to be created from the probe in the flame , if this is not working you have no charge and the magnets won;t stick to allow the valve to open, change the thermo and see if that works first, its way cheaper than a new controler

SOURCE: pilot light goes out when turning on the thermostat

Check your thermocoupling to make sure that it is sensing flame. You can tell if it is good or bad by the white on the tip of the flame sensor. The other problem would be a blocked or closed flue pipe. Make sure that the cap is not smashed down on the pipe on your roof

SOURCE: i have reddy pro 100 lp gas heater when i run it

are you using it in a closed room? you should be using it where there is air circulation. what's happening is the heater is using up oxygen and is producing carbon monoxide which is poisonous and if you are not careful IT WILL KILL YOU!

SOURCE: Cozy Heater not igniting and heating

Sounds like to me that the pilot ignition is not lighting pilot lite. You have to be careful when jumping out the stat that you jump the right wires. It must be an automatic Ignitor, or push button.I would change the module out. That should take care of the problem. Look at the schematics so you know what to look for. Please let me know, Sincerely, Shastalaker7

SOURCE: pilot lites; but, as soon as I turn on gas flame

sounds like your thermacouplar is going out and needs replaced. Sometimes these will act like they are working fine , but when the pilot stays on for awhile and later goes out it is a sure sign that it is bad

Have model md5tpa Pro-com wall heater. heater will not go out with thermostat, you have turn dial off.

If it worked before but won't work now, you could have a bad connection at one end or the other of the thermostat wire, no voltage from the 24v transformer, or a bad thermostat. Some thermostats use batteries in conjunction with 24v power. Check to see if yours does.

Change orfis in water heater

Do NOT do that.
If you put LP gas to NG heater you can cause explosion.
Contact manufacturer and see if they sell conversion kit. Most do not.

Can the Rheem PTG2-42PVN be used with propane gas?

I believe PTG2-42PVN is natural gas.
Rheem site does not show that model number.
As a general rule, Rhemm does not recommend converting NG to LP and LP to NG

yasharer,

Yes it is possible to convert any gas appliance to natural gas or from natural gas to LP. The only difference is the size of the orifice used in the burner. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7207798-changing_gas_appliance_from_natural_gas which explains everything you will need to know to get the part and change it out.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Can i switch a model RN30 from natural gas to propane?

Only the portable heaters that are manufactured to be used on dual fuel (nat gas/propane) can switch from one to another. If they are made for 1 type of gas only, they are not field serviceable and cannot be converted. Douglas

Gas stove need to switch to propane

Hi,

Hotpoint supplies the orifices and instructions with each range for converting. It is just that it is hidden, they attach it to the gas regulator. The regulator is near the bottom back typically. Here is a cut out from your use and care manual.

CONVERTING TO LP GAS (or converting
back to natural gas from LP)
This range leaves the factory set for use with natural
gas. If you want to convert to LP gas, the conversion
must be performed by a qualified LP gas installer.
The conversion instructions and LP orifices can be found
attached to the range next to the pressure regulator.
Keep these instructions and the orifices in case you want
to convert back to natural gas.

Converting aan LP oven to gas

In most cases the pressure regulator has to be changed or adjusted. The orfices on each burner, oven, broiler and surface burner may need to be changed also. Sometimes they can be adjusted. Sometimes the threads on the pipe are different also. This is to prevent accidental connection to the wrong fuel. The big difference is the gas pressure. LP is usually around 10 - 12 lbs and natural gas is usually around 3 lbs. Properly adjusted you will like natural gas much better than LP as it is slightly hotter. The information will be in the instruction book and also on the Jenn air web site. Whirlpool owns both Maytag and Jenn aire so check all sites. The conversion kit is usually less than $50.
