Question about Samsung HLR5087W 50" Rear Projection HDTV
I have picture and sound when TV is driven by my DVD player. I have picture but no sound when TV is driven by my cable box. I know sound is not internally muted from the TV on-screen control panel. Signal path is cable company to cable box to projection TV. What do you suggest I do to get sound back for football game tomorrow?
Either your tuner is bad, coaxial is not plugged in all the way, or your box is bad.

You have 2 distinct problems that should be addressed separately. Please repost the Samsung problem. I will address the Sony problem here.
If the "shadow" makes the picture seem somewhat of a 3D one, the problem is with the convergence circuit. This could be as simple as bad connections on the pins of the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder and would like to attempt the repair, update this and I'll provide more details and instructions.
