You will find the latest firmware listed there, 2.4.0. The unit ships with 1.0.0 which did the same thing for me not playing anything or even recognizing the USB device.

Download the file, unzip it and burn the included file, k08v5_update_78ca9780_2.4.0.ruf , to a cd. Put the cd in the drive while its running and it will automatically update your system. Make sure the vehicle is running at the time to ensure you have adequate power ... if it shuts down in the middle of it you'll brick the system.

It will restart, eject the cd and thats it. Plug in your USB device and it starts playing automatically.

My ROM drive is not working. it cant read

Often DVD will not read, but trying cd to play music will work. which will drive circuits very hot to drive offmoisture condensation. Upon cool down DVD will read. If it does not play the whole DVD, use cd again to get moisture off, until DVD can play all the way and second DVD will play all the way.

Dv-605 kenwood

I have a similar issue with my DV-605 as well. When the unit power on, I can hear the motor trying to start, but the DVD does not spin. Being the adventurous type, I opened the case and turned the DVD drive motor a few revolutions by hand and then the dvd played. I think I need a new DVD drive motor. You may as well....

Reads CD's but not DVD's

Hi I responded to Parisica's problem, so you have read the "bad news" already. All I can add, is that we see your problem quite often, and without spouting a bunch of tech jargon, lets just say it is easier for the laser to read Cd's than DVD's, so quite often when the laser begins to fail, DVD's will no longer play, but Cd's are fine. I'm not an expert on your model, but Parisica mentions a menu setting that turns DVD video on & off, which may be worth checking, and also cleaning may help, as a dirty laser lense can give the same symptoms as a weak laser. I don't want to get your hopes up, 2-3 years of service can certainly be long enough for laser problems, depending on how much you used it. Good Luck!
