make a menu on top toolbar right click in top toolbar select menu bar this will add file edit view fav tools and help
click on tools then from the drop down list internet options connections tick in never dial a connection
then you will have to add your isp internet service provider first you must have an ISP Internet Service provider contract which will provide you with a modem and leads you can choose either a dial up usb or an ethernet connection to connect to the internet or if you have a laptop you can choose a wireless usb modem which can work on a desktop aswell once you recieve the modem just insert the disk provided and follow the prompts to set up your newinternet connection during the setup process you will be asked for a password I suggest you make a log of all pass words used outside of your computer incase of memory lapses hope it helps
As you mentioned, your Compaq Presario MV520 is using Windows 98 OS. As we all know, dial-up connection is the only available internet connection at that time so obviously Win 98 has dial-up LAN connection. However, you wanted to have wireless connection on that PC so you need to install a wireless adapter to that PC. First of all, most wireless adapters that are being used for desktop PC are wireless USB adapter, so you need to have a USB port on that PC. And also, you will need to check if the software for the wireless adapter will be accepted by the PC because since the PC is using Win 98 OS, we are not sure if the firmware of the wireless adapter will be compatible to the PC. Basically, my answer would be not possible.
Most Internet Service providers do provide the modems necessary to connect to the internet. If you are not using a modem and are using dialup, then you will need to make sure your computer has a dial modem and that you have an active phone line to plug into your computer.
If you would like to use DSL or Cable to connect to the internet, then a call to your ISP will be sufficient and a tech will come to hook up your connection.
This is normal. All users of dial up get kicked off randomly to make room on the service providers servers for other users to log on. In addition to it's extremely slow speed, this is the downside to dial up. I would suggest switching to DSL or Cable. It's a constant 'On' connection you cannot get kicked off of.
what you would need to get is a wirless router. If you have high speed internet then you can plug the internet modem into the wireless router and then plug your main pc into the router via an ethernet cable and then set up your laptop to pick up the signal wirelessly. If you have dial up internet then you would still need a wireless router but it is a little more complicated. You could hook up the router to your main pc and then set up internet connection sharing so that way your laptop could pick it up wirelessly. hopefully this helps.
Your laptop should have wireless and the best way to check is on either the front/left/right side of the laptop their is a switch that says wireless flick it to the side that says on... If you don't their should be a name above each of the inputs so look for the one that says something like internet/Ethernet or just plug into the ones that fit it and see if you get connected.
