OK! Don't panic! Nowadays, the formatting process will not actually erase the contained data on a memory card or hard drive. The data is still there and only becomes invisible. That's why one always has chances to get back their lost data back from a formatted hard drive as long as they are not overwritten by anything new.
So, I hope you've not saved anything new on your camcorder to overwrite your vital data.
Plunge this hard drive to your computer and download a formatted camcorder data recovery freeware that can easily restore your wanted data back from this formatted camcorder for free:
PS: Do not forget to back up everything important well in the future.

Format won't make the pictures erased permanently from your digital camera. Try photo recovery software to rescue the lost photos from the camera, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.
Photo Recovery (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery (for Mac OS X)
Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card(of your digital camera) in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.
