I updated vista with SP1. It couldn't update after downloading it so it tried to revert changes. After rebooting, puter won't boot. Loads dell bios screen then switches off to reboot again. It just keeps...

Oh dear, what a problem.
Unfortunately I don't think you can do more that contact Dell and ask them for a "Rescue System Disk"
There may be a charge for this disk but at least it will get your laptop going again.
A memo to Microsoft may make you feel better as well.

Laptop keeps shuting down at random.

This could be caused by MANY different things. If it is a random thing, where do you have your laptop when it happens? If it isn't on a flat smooth surface, it's probably a heat related issue. Laptops need a lot of air circulaton, through the bottom.

Slow puter

Quick Startup is a great tool. It will allow you to set what items you dont want to run on startup, in turn making your computer run faster. Also a good registry cleaner, and defrag every now and then.

Try a system restore. If that doesn't work download and revert back to the old bios.

Problems with keeping booted up

Try this to see what is happening..
Press CTRL - ALT - DELETE all together.
It will open what is called Task Manager.
Do this as soon as the laptop has finished booting.

When it opens, select "Processes" from the top tab, then click on the work Memory. If you have small numbers at the top, then click it again.
Keep that off to the side and watch what is using alot of memory then write the filename down.
Before you get to the point where you have to shutdown, click on the word CPU, again, set it so the highest number goes to the top.
Write down whatever this filename is. If it is System Idle, then write whatever is under that.

Get those 2 done and post the filenames back here, with the amount of memory/cpu they were using before you shutdown.
