Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer making chirping noise while drying.

While using the dryer it is making a very loud chirping noise, regardless of how much we are drying. It happens about 60% of the time and is sometimes louder than others. What is this and how can we fix it?
Thanks!

If this is a GE/Hotpoint dryer then I can tell you exactly what it is. The rear drum bearing is worn down. WE3X75. To replace it you must remove the drum. This involves opening the door and removing all screws holding down the top. Then removing those holding the front on. Then removing the drum itself. This is not a hard job for a mechanically inclined indiviual.dryer making chirping noise while drying. - 389d186.jpg

Everything is fine, except it chirps. Chirps loudly and goes for a while, stops chirping, then starts chirping. Is there a drive belt that needs lubricating?

Hi Ron. I just lost a very extensive reply to you. Yes it can be the pulley making the chirp or the drum rollers. Items 15 - 18 this link: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5172907&diagram_id=1356738#d1356738

It can also be caused by dry drum rollers but usually this is associated with a rumble: Items 2, 11, 12 and 13.

You'll need to access inside the cabinet and oil the tires and belt pulley. Hope this helps!

A hard plastic liner from my front loader dryer has broken off and now the dryer makes a loud noise when drying.

This sounds like one of the drum front plastic bearings has come out or broken, there can be as many as 4 or more of these bearings depending on make, you would need to replace all bearings regardless off wear.
Again, depending on make, this can be quite a job to do ,and on some makes it involves a strip down.Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

GE DBXR463GB Gas Dryer is squeaking loudly when it runs

one of 2 things can be wrong. Back bearing if bad will sound like a bird chirpping, front bearing glide will be more constant squeek. both need to be fixed by experienced tech.
