Its very cold here in Massachusetts currently 4 degrees as I type. I woke up this morning to the sound of all of my radiators clanging loudly! When I opened the basement door I could smell what seemed to be burning wires or melting plastic. I immediately shut off the emergency switch to check out the furnace, (NOT a clue what Im doing) anyways about 4 hours of being off and the house getting rather cold, we turned it back on and it has worked fine, however the blower just came on and now it is making an ODD Wooshing sound, like it is forcing the air out, taking a breath and blowing again... I've NEVER heard this noise before, I'm not even sure that is the best way to describe the sound, but dont know what else to call it. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I'm concerned for the safety of the children and the house but I cant keep the heat off... its COLD!

Have a Honeywell House Humidifer - I've been playing with settings and finding the 'click on' point on the dial is in the 15% RH range which seems awfully low. This seems to tell me the control thinks it is currently around 15% RH in my return duct (and house). If I set it anywhere above 15-20%, it is on all the time when heat is running, adding a lot of moisture to the house. So to set it at 30-40% as specified on the label will really start to cause problems with too much moisture. Humidistat control looks to be properly installed with good access to the return duct airflow. I cannot believe my house is at 15% RH since it is very comfortable. I've even got some wet nails in the attic on cold mornings which tells me I have a tad too much moisture. QUESTION: Do the humidistats (humidity controls) go bad or does this indicate a malfuntion? I am concerned the humidistat is misreading, adding out-of-control levels of moisture to the house, despite being set at way lower than specified levels. I love in NJ and just starting to get some 30 degree mornings. Thoughts? New humidy control maybe? Return duct volume/pressure too much for the control making it think it is much less himid than it really is? I bought house with this and the unit really does make the house very comfortable but this "setting vs. reality" discrepancy has me stumped.

I have one humidistat honeywell H8908B which presently controlls honeywell humidifiers(HE440A ). I am adding the HM512 onto the second furnace and trying to wire into the exisiting 440a. the 440a presently controlls both furnaces and works ok. can i wire and make the HM512 a slave ? and it still has to fill up with water an shut off by itself. i want both to act as one,but having the 440A keep controll of the fans. the service tech added a seperate two pole relay and spiced into to blue wire on the 440 and one side of the humidistat conector. also he set the number 4 dip switch on. this wiring left me with a over heating 512, it was super hotn to touch on the outside of the unit eventhough the main 440A was off.please help
