Low and High Beams not working on 1999 GMC Yukon

My sister's vehicle.. she got the remote start as a gift then it quit working after a month or so, now after a while her headlights quit working. I have checked the fuse.. it is fine, but I can't even find the RELAY for the headlights..? Any help is greatly appreciated!

When the switch is off nothing works, when it is switched to parking lights the daytime running lights come on, then when the headlights are turned on the parking lights work.
No matter what the switch none of the actual headlights work.
Pretty frustrating because I checked the fuse (good) and can't find the relay..

Headlights work from direct power, but not through switch.. is that probably bad? And is there not a headlight relay? Just the 50 amp fuse? Thank you..

Pulling the left turn signal toward the driver controls the switch between high and low beam. The actual switch to turn the lights on is on the left of the steering column, by the dimmer/interior light control.

Shoot I wish I could go premium, but I can't right now.. I have to go take care of a sick baby, BUT if you are around tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday afternoon we might be able to get it squared away. Or you could email me.. ehad46 at yahu dot com

What I was saying is I had to go take care of my child and could not go work on my truck last night. Thank you.

So you can make money giving assistance on here?? That is nice.. I'll probably go ahead and get the premium tomorrow and ask you for help with all my vehicle problems, at least the ones I can't figure out.

    Thanks.

low and high beams not working on my 1999 S10

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

What does having a baby to sit have to do with premium? I am generally online 6-9 pm central, it is 7:30 now. I can't count how many pick ups I have taken the dash out of. Like I said, this is just to make it worth my time. I take your premium where you specifically ask for me and I post info you need and if you can't get to it for a day or two, no big deal. The premium doesn't pay till we're done and you are happy. You could make it a $15 premium and for the heck of it, tell everyone, hands off(haha). You do realize I can't make you do this.

Can your dip under your dash to the headlight switch. Check the orange wire. Should light a testlight. If it is, can you get access to another switch. Can tell you more as I used to be a mobile eletrical mechanic. Please go premium and ask for me or live chat and ask for me. We might have lights in a few minutes. TY

Headlights generally don't have a fuse but if yours do that's cool too. Next step is a previous question. Do you have a pull out knob or do they come on via left turn signal?

If you know anyting about auto electrics I would say, take a wire straight from the battery positive to the lights to see if they work right off the battery.

Pretty much one not related to the other. Do your headlights turn on bu a pull switch on dash?

Why do my all my lights work on my 2001 GMC jimmy except my low beams.

Replace the turn signal switch. All the exterior lights run threw it except the high brake light. There is a small plastic clip/switch in it that controls high and low setting. Because of heat it starts to melt and quits working.

2008 gmc truck Low beams quit working. I have High beams and running lights only. whats possible fix?

Are the bulbs good?

If your low and high beams are on the same bulb, then the low beam elements have blown even though the high beam still works, you need two new bulbs.

No low or high beams changed light switch and high low beam switch check bulbs and fuses check daytime running module

Check Relay under hood in box mounted behind front left fender. Should be a cover on 8"x6" box, location should be printed under lid on sticker as to which relay.

Online 1996 gmc yukon headlight schematic? free?

It sounds like it's your Headlight switch has gone bad, I'm thinking that the high beams are the daytime running light which is the same as your High beams.
If you go to Auto Zone or Parts Source, they have the replacement switch with step by step instructions. Try not to run your Headlights too long from your running light's. The headlight's draw more amps then the running lights and can melt the wire which can result in a short and worst a fire.
If you remove the headlight switch from the dash, check the orange wire for power, if there is 12 volts. Good chance's are that the switch is bad, common on the GM's.
Good luck and hope this helps. I believe they go around $70.00 or do what most guys do. Salvage Yard range from $10.00 to $40.00 and there also have warranty.

Cruise control stopped working

I had a similar problem with my 99 Suburban. After not being able to solve the problem for about six months, my headlamps stopped working on the low beams. This led my mechanic to change the multi-function switch on the steering column (turn signal/cruise control switch/high beams) When he did this he discovered that the wire terminals at the switch had gotten hot enough to melt a little, this allowed the ground terminal to slip out of the connector. Once replaced, the cruise control miraculously started working again. I have had no problems with it for the last four years. The local GM dealer told me later that they had quite a few trucks with the same problem and it typically started with customers noticing that their cruise control stopped working. Give this a try!
