Question about GE GSS20IEP Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a GE side by side refrig. I want to install a 3n1 start capacitor. The instructions with the product are quite clear on wiring to the run capacitor and the compressor but offer no help on how to attach the two line wires. The two wires off of the old start relay (one start wire, one run wire) and the two wires off the old run capacitor and the one Black wire(the former neutral) to the compressor are all available. How do I hook this thing up to be sure it is controlled by the thermostat and does not just run all the time(as it would do if I just run a 110 and a ground to the line wires ? Please help !! tra_cyogag@yahoo.com

The answer is to take the orange wire from the run capacitor and the orange wire from the relay and twist them together and attach to one of the line wires. Attach the other line wire to the black wire that was previously the ground on the compressor. I asked this question and have since found the answer. I am putting it out there because I saw where others have asked the same thing. God bless !

Installed 3n1 start kit - did not help. compressor shows good resistant between all windings, not grounded, but hard start kit did not start it either. But this video might help You to wire 3n1.

How to wire in new hard start

It's very simple to install a 3N1 Supco Hard Start Relay, Some refrigerators have a run capacitor located on compressor or mounted nearby. It will be important that you use the run capacitor in with the 3N1 Hard Start. Here is a Photo of the=> URCO810_3_N_1

The instructions come with the 3N1 Hard Start Relay. Can you please post the model number of your refrigerator here so I can look up a wiring diagram? Look around the fresh food section door frame for your model number. I do need to know so we can get the right run capacitor in the 3N1 hard start circuit, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a Montgomery Ward refrigerator purchased in 1995 hmg19133. The coil and compressor fan quit and I replaced it. After replacement the compressor kept cycling on/of ever couple of minutes and...

Hello, I just want to be clear, did you say you replaced the compressor ? Or just the fan & 3in1 hard start ? If so or if not what kind of amperage does it draw when cycling ? That would be the place to start...you'll need a "clamp on" ammeter. Regards, Macmarkus :)

Compressor cycles on overload checked run cap it reads 15.7 ufs rated 15 .installed new overload and relay compressor still cyc;es. Installed a 3 and 1 and compressor ran. can I install the 3n1 permently...

The way I check compressor problems is : If it kicks off on the overload , remove the overload / relay . Check all 3 terminals with the meter set on beep . Also , check each terminal to any part of the copper compressor lines . A beep there would indicate a shorted compressor . I would then replace the overload / relay ( wiring correctly with the capacitor ) and connect an amp meter to the overload wire . Plug in the refrig and check the compressor run amps . New compressors usually run 0.7 amps . If the compressor runs anywhere above 2.5 amps , then a lot of wear is on it and not much longer life . I never use a 3 in 1 due to these are only a partial fix and will not last long . Actually , If a refrig comes into the shop , these are jerked off the compressor and thrown away . I consider 3 in 1 absolute junk and frown on any technician using them . Refrigerators come to our shop ( we pick up from lowes , home depot trade ins ) and I've thrown many away , which also means they cannot be permanently used .

Our water dispenser on our GE side by side refrigerator quit working. I changed the filter. No results.

At the bottom of the freezer door ( remove the kick plate , 1 screw on each side ) , there will be a water line . Follow this line , about 6 " to a connector . Push in on the white ring and pull out the line , at the same time . Activate the water dispensor pad and see if water flows from the line under the refrig . If it does , then the line in the door is frozen . Either raise the freezer temp for several days , so the line in the door will thaw , or , I have heard using an air tank will blow the ice out of the line in the door . If no water comes from the line under the refrig , while activating the pad , then replace the water valve , behind the refrig , the piece the wall water line connects to on the refrig .
If the water line in door is frozen , GE has a heater kit , pt # WR49X10173 , for this particular problem . It comes , with installation instructions .

I have a GE profile side x side refrig. The

Your owners manual , will tell you the minimum clearences for the refrig . If I have 2 refrig's on my test line , less than 2 " apart , both will emit moisture on the sides , depending on the weather . There has to be air flow on the sides and rear . Sorry this doesn't answer your question directly , but there is no product that can be installed , to stop this problem with the refrig . However , you may , pull the refrig out , and treat the faceing wood , with a waterproof paint or sealant . It sounds like this part of the cabinet , will not be seen . Plastic will not work , moisture will just go thru it . Yes , treating the faceing wood sounds like the most logical solution .
