Press the reset key(button) on the controller (asumming you have a R-M4 controller.) The R-M3 controller should have a reset button too.

The green lights that normally shows utility power available are not lit despite having 240v all the way through to the house. I had to manually swich it off. Control panel???

Hi Scott,

If this is a newly installed Automatic Transfer Switch (or "ATS"), stop. Call the installer and have them get it working properly. You do not want to start poking around and potentially void the warranty.

If this ATS has been installed earlier and has worked as expected before, and this is the first failure, then we can rule out an improperly connected ATS. I have looked at the manual and see table 9 on page 15 shows a troubleshooting guide. The second condition speaks to the failure to return to utility power due to "T" timer, auto exerciser, or S1 (left-most green LED) power quality / presence issue. It is this last S1 indicator that seems to be the issue. If it is not working, the other green LED (S2) will not light as the ATS will not close the contacts between the Utility and Load. This tends to make me believe the problem lies within the control panel as it is responsible for sensing not only utility power, but performs the synchronization or timing of the transfer of the load from one system or the other. This is needed as generator power is unstable until the generator speed has come up to speed and remains constant. Likewise, the utility sees a huge load when they restore lost power and this can cause some odd waveforms - those that most electronics do not like. Either way, they are power quality issues. Since they are two different systems, it is highly unlikely that they are synchronized. The controller helps to minimize the mismatched waveforms for a smooth transition.

This is a job for qualified personnel. You need to be careful as this system when shut down, might automatically start the generator. If you can't hear it - the potential for shock, burns or even death is present. Be careful - or better yet, call an electrician or the company that performed the installation.

Good luck!

My GE 15132 was operating fine for a year but now is losing time..the clock runs about 4 hours a day slow...I am resetting it once or twice a day....what could be wrong??

Contact Jasco and tell them what you said here.

Although GE has made high-quality timers for many years, the 15000 series box timers have been on the mass market for a year or so, and there are no replacement parts like available for Intermatic timers.

I tested the GE series and found them to be cheaply made with moveable plastic parts and lightweight overall.

I believe that means the battery for your generator needs to be charged or replaced. It should be inside the enclosure that your generator is in. Probably looks like a car battery.

What are some the problem if transfer switch dose not transfer when genarator cut in?

If the transfer switch is wired correctly, but for some reason it fails to switch over, even though the generator starts, this will not cause a problem or a safety issue. It will simply mean that no power from the generator goes to the house, and your house will still be connected to the utility company line. The generator will continue to run, but only with enough power to keep itself running at the proper speed. It will have no load on it, which is the same thing that would happen if everything in your house was turned off.

I'm wiring a briggs and stratton 1918 automatic transfer switch. how do i wire the chosen circuits to be powered? would they be wired exactly as if they were at the main panel?

With any transfer switch, automatic or otherwise, there are three (3) connections:

1. The normal feed (from your local utility)
2. Emergency feed (from your generator)
3. The load (your power panel or other electrical loads)

The transfer switch should be marked "N" for normal, "E" for emergency, and "L" for load

If you want individual circuits, then you will need a second power panel to separate the circuits.

This can be tricky, and if you are not familiar with transfer switches or emergency power, it's best left to a licensed electrician.

Heath Zenith Security Light fixture with motion stopped working.

I am in the middle of a discussion with Heath/Zenith over a closely related and perhaps identical issue. I purchased their 5718 model from Home Depot and based on the fact that their brochure stated that "CFL bulbs are only usable on 270 degree units." I purchased the model 5718 unit (270 degree) and used CFL bulbs. It experienced the same problem others noted.

The technician at Heath/Zenith told me that only DIMMABLE CFL bulbs would work with this unit (even if the DualBrite feature is turned off). Standard CFL bulbs will not work.

Their brochure does not make that clear. Perhaps that is the answer to others' problems.
