Question about Whirlpool ET8CHEXSQ Dryer

1 Answer

Whirlpool Dryer I got a dryer for Christmas in 2007 and we had no problems until we moved into a new home in Oct. 2008. The dryer will click when I select a length of time and when I push the start button it will pop, then when I open the door it will click like it is turning off, but the motor and the drum never start at all. I have checked the following: cleaned out the bottom, cleaned out the back, changed the thermal fuse, tightened all connections, the breaker is correct voltage and the plug works fine, the belt on the motor is barely worn. Any suggestions on what may have happened?

we bought it used from a dealer with no waranty and all we did when we moved is unplug it then we plugged it in when we got into the new house. It hasn't run at all since we put it in this house, but we have had the breaker box and the outlet looked at and they are both fine.I have turned the breaker off and back on several times with the same result.

The model number is Whirlpool LE6800XTW0

Try turning off the breaker(s), then back on. It may have tripped and not showing as tripped. You say you have replaced the thermal switch, have you checked the hi limit switch. Your may have one on there separate. I am curious, has the dryer run at all since you have moved in your new home. It is possible, if you had to put on a new pigtail, that you have gotten the wiring wrong. Check that. If it has been working since you moved in, then contact the dealer since it still should be under warranty. Let me know what you find out. Good luck.

This sounds more like the start switch to me each time I read the problem since you have already done the obvious and easiest to fix. Call a local repairman out to check it out.

I think your old plug is probably 120 and you may need to convert to 220. It's probably the wiring is probably 220 in new home? Or maybe not grounded properly. This is a job for a professional. If you think you know what you doing, we try to save a few dollars by doing it ourselves. But sometimes it is time to call the experts, before we cause more damage and cost us more money. Good luck!

My dryer was working fine until one morning it wouldnt even start. We have cleaned out the traps, We have checked the door... the light comes on every time its opened. The buttons seem to work and move...

This is a symptom of a blown thermal fuse located on the blower housing. This thermal fuse is in wired in series with the motor and power to the motor is cut when the fuse blows then the motor cannot run and no dryer function works. Dryer will not start

Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks and clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Whirlpool duet dryer will not start. Panel lights come on as usual and when press start machine clicks and will not start. Light on wet sensor lights and no drying action begins.

press the cancel button on the machine. Then do this. press and hold the start button for 2 seconds then release wait 2 seconds and press and hold again for 2 seconds continue this pattern until the dryer goes into test mode. You will see all the lights on the control light up. press each button on the control one at a time 3 times each. (Do not press the cancel button) until the dryer begins to run. When the dryer starts to run then press the cancel button. Then your machine should function properly. This is a secret test and reset for your dryers control, so please keep this between us. The whirlpool people would be heart broke if they see this posted on the web ;-) . If your dryer will still not start after this test, you may need a new control. If you need a part let me know and I can ship it right to you. Good luck and I hope this will fixYa and saves you the $400.00 it would cost for whirlpool to send a certified tech to come to your home.

Dryer not completely drying clothes.

Cleaning the lint trap of the dryer may is not enough in some cases. I suspect you may have a problem with the vent ducting that extends from the the exhaust of the dryer to where it exits your home. The majority of dryer heat realted problems are due to poor ventilation and clogged vents. I dryer left in this condition will overheat to the point of failure. Not to mention, this creates a fire hazard and a habitat for rodents.

A simple test to determine if you have a dryer ventilation problems is to remove the vent hose from the back of the dryer and attempt to dry a load WITHOUT the vent hose attached. The air exiting the back of the dryer should be warm and forceful. If the clothes dry normally, then you need to inspect your vent ducting from where it enters the wall, to where it exits the home.

If the air flow is weak and your clothes still take a long time to dry, then you need to inspect the INTERIOR ducting of the dryer. Namely, the air blower housing. I suspect you'll find your clothes will dry better with the vent hose removed. Since it dried normally BEFORE you moved, and now it doesn't, you need to take a serious look at where the vent exhausts to. If the ducting runs through and attic or crawl splace they typically development sags, kinks and can clog. The rule of thumb when it comes to ducting: the SHORTER and STRAIGHTER, the better. Every bend you put into a dryer vent creates resistance to air flow, makes the dryer blower fan work harder and creates choke points where lint can accumulate and clog. Perform this simple prelimnary check and let me know what you find. I hope you find this advice helpful.

PS Do not run your dryer for extended periods of time without the exhaust hose attached. This will add humidity to your home and potential mildew. One load should be enough to determine if you have a problem. Don't run it this way as a normal everyday routine.
