Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

How is the chain supposed to be aligned

I just replaced a sprocket assembly on my 1/2 HP Sears garage door opener and it won't work because I have no idea where the chain is supposed to be aligned before I operate it. Half of the connection to the trolley is chain and the other half is solid wire, so where do I begin the chain links on the sprocket at the top? I have everything back together but the door will not open or close. The motor goes on and off but nothing connects.
Sincerely, Cindy

Sync the motor. the gear kit tells you how. get motor up and position trolley near motor, assuming you left chain/cable attached to trolley). Get motor up by running motor and then pushing button again. if motor reverse, let it run and it will stop in up position.

Replace the gear and sprocket assembly on a garage door opener

I had to retension my spring assembly on the garage door a few years ago and I don't recommend anyone without proper tools and some experience to do it. It can be dangerous.

It sounds like the shaft for the sprocket and drive gear has broken or been sheared off. The part number for this assembly is 41C4220A and is available from Sears parts or any good local door opener company. It comes with instructions if you want to do it yourself.

The chain came off my Craftsman 53920 garage door opener. How can I fix this problem?

When a chain comes off it is an indication of another problem. The bearing on the sprocket shaft is bad and lets the sprocket lean forward and the chain pops off. The part number you need is 41C4220A Gear and Sprocket Assembly. The chain can be loosened by the nuts on the trolley.

My garage door chain came off, i put it back on

Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.

The chain normally comes off when there is a problem with the sprocket and gear assembly. The bearing goes bad and lets the shaft lean towards the door and the chain comes off. If this happens again you will need to replace that assembly which is part #41C4220A and is available at any good door service company.

Garage door opener motor doesn't work.

2 flashes is a safety eye issue, but you problen is most likely that the chain is not sync with the limit setting. Take the bottom off the gear and sprocket assemble and rotate center limit srew until it is in the same position as the trolley.

You need a gear kit. Amazon sells them. I got mine at a Sears Service center. Beware that you will need to completely disassemble your unit to replace the gears.
