Re: how to fix my camera
You may want to call Olympus Customer Service as this is probably a repair issue with the camera. They will be able to explain their repair policies and procedures to you. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:
Lens unit has to come out to see whether the problem can be sorted out without spares going in. But unfortunately you have to go from the back on this model which means disconnecting and removing all 3 pc boards and the LCD screen and then loosening the lens mounting to slide the lens out from the back.
You may have to dismantle the free lens further once it is out to see exactly what the damage is ( if any ).
that is a symptom of being dropped and stuck in a mode. it requires total dissemble of the camera to fix or replace the lens. your lucky it takes pictures at all. most cameras refuse if the lens is stuck.
