Question about Epson Stylus Multifunction Inkjet Printer/ Copier/ Scanner

My computer does not recognize my scanner

I have an epson all in one, the printer works and the copier works but it won't recognize the scanner, I've uninstalled and reinstalled and even did a new install of windows xp home, thinking that there might be a program on my computer that was preventing it from working and even after all that I still get the error message ''Cannot properly communicate with the scanner. Make sure the scanner is on, properly connected, and properly set up to scan. If using a SCSI connection, restart your computer''.
Please help, I'm just about at my wits end!!

SOURCE: Epson DX6000 scanner problem

If it's a new printer, try changing the USB printer cable. Sometimes one of the wires just gives out and doesn't communicate properly between the printer and your PC. Hope this helps.

I've had the same trouble and found a solution but only by using google, as the epson website is COMPLETE **** and a nightmare for browsing.

The link below will show you where to obtain all drivers and software you need to set up the epson DX4850.

Just remember to select which operating system you're using (found on the left side of the screen) so you don't install the wrong version of drivers/software.

SOURCE: I am unable to scan

Did you ever get a resolution to your problem? I have exactly the same problem with same error message - and very loud clicking noises coming from the scanner. Powering it down - allowing it to "cool" for 5 minutes will get probably 1 or 2 documents through the scanner before the error message reappears. But this is only a workaround rather than a solution.

What OS is running on your computer? Epson has the drivers/software available on their site: http://tech.epson.com.au/downloads/category.asp?sCategory=Multi_Functional&id=StylusTX410&SelOS=Y . Download and install the appropriate software before connecting the USB cable from the printer to the computer.

Note: the software from this site does not include any third-party software that may have been on the original CD.

Scanner is disconnected or Turned off.


Try going to manufactures web site and downloading drivers for the printer from there. Also you might check your device manager to see if the unit is being recognized by your computer. it should show up iunder USB or Printers. I had an Epson that did the same thing but mine was a wireless and I had to re-establish coneection and go through setup again to have my IP address recognized. Most of the time plug n play will pick up the new device.

You might also try running security and windows updates on your computer, there might be an update that is keeping the computer from recognising the printer anymore.

Its just a start of what could be going on, hope its an easy fix.

YOUR TECHNICIAN WOLKED ME THROUGH A SOLUTION THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY.  (REINSTALLING THE ORIGINAL SOFTWARE)  I WAS ABLE TO SCAN 1 IMMAGE, BUT COULD NOT SCAN ANOTHER.

Scanner Not Recognized


You need to remove the yellow question mark on the device manager. Click on the plus sign of the Question mark icon. Right click on the item that will be displayed under the question mark and then uninstall. You need to uninstall the drivers as well. you can doo it on add/remove programs(winxp) or program features (vista). Unplug the USb cable/ Download drivers from support.epson.com and you just need to choose the right driver for your windows version. After Installing the TWAIN driver and Epson scan utility, you need to restart computer. When computer is ready you can plug in the usb cable and open up Epson Scan on your desktop

Scanner not recognized by computer


Try to check control panel>device manager>check if there is an imaging device on the list. If none, it means that the computer is not detecting your printer. Try to plug it in to other port or try to use another usb cable. If still won't work, you need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the scanner
