Question about Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 for PC

1 Answer

My Sony Vaio came with MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP MEDIA CENTER EDITION 2005. I don't know why, but it is no longer installed. The COA key code numbers are on the back stickers. How do I re-install it? Do I need a recovery disc? Can I order one, if so?

If you have the key you should be able to borrow the installation disk. The software will

install with the original key. If you have no other option the software can be purchased

at this link.

Hi,

Your Sony VAIO VGNC Series were desiged for Windows Vista. Windows XP is compatible with this computer as well. The Video adapter installed in this computer Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950. According to Intel, this video adapter is compatible for Microsoft Windows* XP, Windows* XP 64bit, Media Center Edition 2004/2005, Windows 2000; Linux-compatible (Xfree86 source available). The only way this computer will work perfectly is to downgrade your Windows 7 to any of the mentioned Windows versions.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply/comment for further assistance. Good Luck!

LOST WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION CD, HOW DO I GET ANOTHER OR DOWNLOAD IT

You can't. It is proprietary software from Microsoft and they guard it religiously. Borrow a CD from a friend who has the *exact* same edition you have and make a copy. Then if you need to re-install, the Certificate Of Authenticity Key number (COA) on the sticker on your computer should let you install. For desk top computers it is usually stuck to the side or back of the case. On laptops, it is on the bottom. That COA number is your proof that you paid for the operating system when you bought the machine. Even if you bought it used.

Hi There,

Windows Media Center Edition is exactly that; an "Edition" of XP Pro. If you go to My Computer and then click on System Properties, you will likely be comforted to see that you indeed have Windows Media Center Edition 2005.
