Way back (say 10 years) there was a fix for this for transmission with I believe had white stickers on them. (not yellow, green, or other colors) which was a set of ball bearings and a special grease. It was part number WH49X10002. I think parts stores want about $125 for that now if they have them. That's a lot for four about 1/4 inch ball bearings and a squeeze tube of special grease. If I were fixing your machine I would replace the entire transmission (WH38X10002) which probably will run about $25 more than the kit, and is really less work. Now you will have to decide if you want to put that kind of money into a 12 year old low end of the line washer. Personally, I'd advise to put that money toward a new front loading machine which use only 12-15 gallons of water (vs. about 45) and spin out at 1000 RPM or more (vs. 550).
PS. I personally like the LG front loaders the best, for several reasons including the direct drive motor with it's seven year part warranty. Don't buy from Sears, which does not provide factory warranties on most machines. Look at the LG WM1814 or WM2233, or WM2455. You don't have to go to the top of the list to get some great features. Let me know if you decide to fix and need advice on how to proceed. Thanks for the question. Please don't rate if you can't do a Fix-Ya, as anything else drops my score.

Model MAH 7800 drain pump will not run, door locks, tub spins, water drains by gravity

Well your drain pump needs attention for sure. There could be an object lodged against propellers or it may need to be relaced. Try unplugging the connector that goes to the pump and plugging back in. Also try tapping the the motor part of the drain assembly while in spin cycle before replacing. Good luck.

Spin cycle trips house circuit breaker on my GE top loading washer

Hello,

The very likely reason the breaker trips only on spin is because the tub bearing is locked up on the washer since it is locked up its causing way excessive friction at the motor which causes the breaker to trip. Can you rotate the tub by hand or does it seem really hard to rotate by hand indicating that the tub is ceased up due to the tub bearing??

How do I clean my washing machine? My clothes and the washer have a mildew odor.

Add the entire packet of "TIDE WASHING MACHINE CLEANER" directly into the tub (no laundry) and close the door.

Press and hold: SPIN SPEED & SOIL LEVEL buttons--then press POWER button.
Wait for door to lock.

Press the START button (6) times--this will fill the tub with hot water to the maximum setting when it stops filling.

Press the START button two more times--this will enable the tub to tumble.
After 3 hours--turn "off" the washer.
Turn the washer back "on".
Select the shortest wash cycle (usually "quick wash") and press "START". This will rinse out the tub.
This method of "TUB CLEAN" is *not* from a service manual but has been the best method for cleaning out LG washers more than a year into incorrect detergent usage.

After this--use the correct amount of "HE" detergent & perform a "TUB CLEAN" cycle every (4) months using the *tub clean* option on the control panel.

Maytag Performa washer drum turns with agitator. Also the brake doesn't stop the drum at end of cycle or when cover lifted.

The first thing to check is the clutch. It's supposed to lock the inner tub and drive the transmission (agitator) when the motor turns in one direction, and spin the tub when the motor turns in the other direction. It's also possible the agitator drive shaft coming out of the transmission and the concentric tub drive shaft are frozen together (worst case) - this is usually caused by a bad bearing seal allowing water to leak into the shaft.

Lifting the lid during the spin cycle should disconnect power to the motor - maybe what you see is the tub continuing to spin because the transmission is acting as a flywheel. Either that, or the lid switch actuator is not working properly.

I tried washing a rug - I believe it was too heavy and moved the washer around during the spin cycle. Now it is not spinning, it make the sound but it won't turn - I can move the tub around with my hand...

Hello- First unplug the washer. The out-of-balance switch may have gotten tripped. If you open the lid and look in the space between the tub and the top in the rear right corner you should see a plastic "arm" sticking down, reach you hand back there and move it back away from the tub. This lever actuates a switch in the control panel that will prevent it from spinning if there is pressure on it, it should be hanging freely away from the tub. Plug the machine back in and test it. If it doesn't work another thing that may be happening is the tub is not engaging on the transmission. With the tub empty reach inside the top perimeter of the tub and lift it up and let it down a few times, sometimes this will reset it and get it to spin. Lastly, i would check that the lid is locking when you put it into spin, the lid lock light should come on and you should not be able to lift the lid. If the lid is not locking you may need to have a F/P Tech out to replace the lid lock. You can test the spin by setting the machine to Permanent Press and advancing the cycle to spin. It will take a few minutes to start spinning usually. Let me know what you discover, good luck. Best regards.

Oe error code, cleaned filter, checked hose

You might be using too much detergent and causing a sudslock condition. The machine uses very little water and any amount over a teaspoon of HE will simply cause the machine to lock down. An OE error means it took longer than 10 minutes to drain the tub. IF the machine is trying to correct a sud problem it will continually toss in more water till sudslock is corrected.

My washers tub does not lock when in wash cycle. Tub spins in wash cycle. What could be the problem?

YOU MEAN THE AGITATOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TUB NOT MOVING AT ALL? IF SO, REPLACE THE AIR BELL COUPLER. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE AGITATOR TO GET TO IT. VERY CHEAP PART, UNDER $10. VERY SIMPLE JOB

Tub sometimes will not spin to wring out clothes.

Sounds like the machine is not pausing between cycles to allow the transmission to lock into spin.
