Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

1 Answer

Kenmoore Dryer will not start

I have a Kenmoore Dryer Series 80. It will not start, I have power to the start switch. When I press and hold the switch you can hear a timer running, but stops when released.

how do i change the door switch on my kenmore dryer

  • randy_shrade Jan 18, 2009

Not really. I do know that when you toggle the door switch it will turn the light inside off/on thats about all I can tell you.

  • randy_shrade Jan 18, 2009

Okay I have checked that when the door is open and I press the start switch nothing happens. When I close the door and press the start switch the you can hear the timer running. I have started to remove the panels to gain access to the door switch.

  • randy_shrade Jan 18, 2009

Okay. I have removed the switch and checked continuity. 1 to 2 I got 0.1 ohms 1 to 3 I got 0.2 ohms when I toggled the switch

Hey Onthejob5130 Thanks for your help you guided me in the direction I needed to go. I found a schematic inside the dryer and traced from the door switch to the dryer motor and found that the thermal switch was blown. Thanks again and keep up the good work...

ok randy ..in you case i need to kow if that door switch is good ..if not replace timer...to the guess that want to know how to change door switch,,im assuming you have same model as randy...pull your filter oue on top of dryer,,now you see the 2 phillips head screws remove them...now get your putty knife,,always unplug first,,push your putty knife in between the front right corner of the top and the front panel 1 inch away from the corner,,you will fill a clip now push in with your putty knife..and pick up hold top..now do the left side....look straight down on the right hand side front..you see the switch,,disconnect now to remove open door than remove 2 screws on the underside of front panel,,reverse to put together....,,note to randy you need to test this switch,,switch part #3406107,,onthejob

Does a kenmoore 80 series have glides

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Maytag-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-PYE2300AYW/3048/0151200?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=PYE2300AYW
go here and you can see the parts in your dryer,if the model isn't a maytag pye2300ay then just put your model number in there and it will show you, kenmore doesn't make anything, you go by the model number if it starts with 110. it's a whirlpool,if say 417. it's frigidaire made but the maytag model you sent has rollers and i would say if you have a kenmore 80 series it has rollers, you can buy a kit that comes with the rollers, belt and belt pulley

I have a kenmore dryer 80 series it only makes a lite sound when I push the start button. I won't come on. The power is good.

The Kenmore 80 Series of dryers are consumer grade dryers for home use. As with most home appliances, the Kenmore 80 series dryers will occasionally not work as intended. If a problem occurs with your dryer, however, you do not necessarily need it serviced by a technician. You can attempt to troubleshoot and fix any problems with your dryer before contacting a technician.

  1. Kenmore 80 Series dryers may not run for several reasons. First, make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working power outlet. You may need to plug a different device into the outlet to check that it is receiving power. If the second device does not run on the power outlet, you may have blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. Check your fuse box or circuit breaker box and make the change as needed.
Next, make sure that the dryer door is fully shut. The dryer will not run with the door ajar.
Finally, check that the "Start" button was fully pressed and that a cycle was chosen on the machine. If you do not choose a cycle for the dryer, it will not run.
  2. If your Kenmore 80 Series dryer does not heat up during use, check that a heat cycle has been chosen for the load. There are several different dryer cycles you can choose, some of which do not use heat. Make sure that you have chosen a heated cycle.
As above, check that you have not blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. The dryer may use more than one fuse or breaker: one is used to power the drum, and the other for the heating element. Make sure that both fuses or breakers are in working order.
  3. There may be times when Kenmore Series 80 dryers do not fully dry your clothes. When this occurs, check the lint screen and clear out any lint. The air may not flow as well if the lint screen is clogged.
Next, check to see if the exhaust vent is clogged. Lint and other particles may clog the exhaust vent over time, restricting air flow and making it more difficult to dry your clothes. To check the vent, run the dryer and hold your hand under the vent. If you do not feel any air flow, clean or replace the vent.
If you used cold water to rinse the clothes it may take longer than normal to dry. The same is true if the load of laundry is very wet or is filled with items that are very absorbent.
Finally, check the load size. The more clothes in the load the longer it will take to dry. If you want to reduce drying time, separate the clothes into piles of light and heavy items and dry them separately.
  4. please comment on these solution by saying how helpful.

Where's the fuse of the kenmoore dryer 80 series?

Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Kenmore 80 series - quit working - no noise when I press the start button

Check the door switch in the upper right of the door frame. Ours snapped off so the door wasn't contacting the switch anymore.
