Kenmore 90 series won't agitate, spin or drain

Kenmore won't agitate, spin or drain and makes a grinding noise when I turn it on. It's ~ 9 yrs. old. I have an 80 series Kenmore washing machine type 111 top loader, maybe ten years old. It won't spin with the top up or down, but it does fill up with water. Is there somewhere I can get a manuel for it so maybe I can work on it?

The problem could either be the pump or motor. If there is an object stuck in the pump, the motor will not be able to run. If the motor is seized up from having bad bearings, this would cause the motor not to run also. With both of these conditions the motor would be making a humming noise or the grinding noise you are hearing. However, it is possible your washer has multiple problems. This would require gaining access to the inside of the machine & making several checks.

RE: " won't agitate, spin or drain and makes a grinding noise when I turn it on"

A: that is a bad motor, or motor coupler or a bearing that is completely gone, pepends on what is making the noise.

Kenmore 90 plus series washer won't spin, barely agitates, will drain - but makes loud noise

It sounds like the transmission is done. Can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but I would start there.

Not draining..agitator making a grinding type of

The bad news is with the combination of not draining and the grinding it is undoubtedly the drain pump. The good news is they are not difficult to replace. Let me know if you need any info on replacing it yourself and I'll try to give you the steps needed.
Hope this helped.

Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

Tub won't agitate and when it does spin, makes a grinding noise.

its probably in the gear case. or spin tube bearings. did you see any oil leaks on the gear case or clutch and break area.

Squeaking/grinding/rattle noise during wash and spin

That sounds like a clutch problem - probably just worn and need replacement. Will definitely need to pull to find exact fault.

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
