OK just looked at the Searspartsdirect.com website and there are 2 parts that I think it could possibly be. One is the SHOE part # 399725-00 list 4.86 in stock and or guard 157325-00 list 4.59 also in stock. I would suggest that you go to this site and confirm which one you need, but the shoe is the piece that does ride against the work surface. Good Luck and let me know if I can help further

I have the same saw. It sounds like you are talking about the shoe or the finger guard. If either of these are missing the saw will still work. My saw does not have the finger guard on it anymore. The shoe does however often ride along the work your cutting.

How do I disassemble a craftsman 10 amp reciprocating saw?

To remove the front half of the saw:

1. Remove the two screws that hold the guide shoe
2. Pull and wiggle the guide shoe straight forward and out.
3. Remove the metal support from the front of the rubber boot by prying it out of the groove.
4. Using a pick or a very small screwdriver, pry the retaining pin from the blade release handle and remove from the front. It removes without much friction.
5. Remove the blade release handle through the side of the saw by wiggling and releasing the return spring.
6. Remove the rubber boot off the front of the saw by gently prying near the center of the saw and firmly pulling.
7. Remove the six screws to remove the black plastic dust cover.
8. Remove the remaining two screws and lift the grease guard to access the reciprocating mechanism, being careful not to drop the needle-bearings. This area can be packed with grease.

The handle part of the saw is self explanatory.

How do I replace the pin?

toolpartsdirect.com has schematics plus you can order the parts there also,, but in my opinion that pin might have been part of the screw and it simply broke off

Blade lock on Craftsman 10 amp recip

The guide foot comes completely out by wiggling and pulling a little harder than you would think. It is held in place by friction in addition to the two screws. Once the guide foot is removed, remove the front metal support piece by prying it out of the groove in the rubber boot. You can then access the pin and blade release lever. Make sure the return spring is in place on the rear side of the blade lock latch.
