Question about NEC Versa SX Notebook

Stuck in suspend/sleep/standby... I think...

I just bought this used notebook from a guy who had just upgraded it to XP SP1, and it worked fine. I updated it to SP2, then I had to go to work, and when I came back to it later, the notebook would turn on (charge and power lights come on, and you can hear the HDD spinning) but the Display doesn't come on, the CD drive won't open, etc. It's all-around unresponsive. I've tried the "FN" + "Suspend" keys, I've tried the power button, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be great.

Take the battery out for a minute and put it back in. Don't plug the AC adapter in. Now turn it on. If it comes on go to 'settings' 'control panel' 'power settings' set everything to 'never' and make sure nothing is checked under the differant tabs. Ray

I have a Sony Z11 and lately when it is in sleep mode or idle for a while it will shut down in such a way that I have to reboot and when I do it gives the standard Windows 7 message about it not shutting...

Have you checked the sleep mode time under Settings ?
This is a known behaviour with sony laptop's and there are several workaround. The best i can suggest is to update the SP 2, since this issue started with SP1. Also check if any Pen drive, flash drive is connected when it goes to sleep mode, try removing any such removable device and check if that fixes the problem.

My compaq Nx6310 notebook pc can not detect the USB ports when using windows XP

loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); To fix this problem on a Windows XP-based computer, you must be running Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later. To determine if you have Windows XP SP1 or later, click Start, click Run, type winver, and then click OK. If SP1 or later is not listed in the About Windows dialog box, then use Windows Update ( to install the latest service pack before you try to fix this problem.

How can i close the lid of my compaq R3000 when hooked up with a monitor and have it still run? is there a switch i have to hit?

You have to right click on your desktop and select properties (if using Windows XP) and go to power options under screen saver. There is an option where it says, sleep when I close the lid of my laptop. Uncheck that and you will be fine!

Not turning back on after sleep mode

I had the same problem when I first bought my Acer Aspire One a few weeks ago. I searched the web for answers, but it didn't really seem like anyone had a solution. However, one guy on a forum or website said something that gave me an idea - he said something like: What's the problem? Just open it up, hit the power button, type your password, and it wakes up.

Well, that didn't seem helpful to me at the time that I read it, but after thinking about it, I had a hunch. I had not set up my netbook to have a password (yet). So I did. And it's been waking up from sleep mode like it should ever since!!!

Hopefully, if you're reading this, setting a password will work for you, too. If you don't know how to set a password, here goes... Start...Control Panel...User Accounts...Change an Account...[Pick your name.account]...then the option to create a password should come up. Let us know if this works for you!

Dell crashes and restarts upon sleep_suspend_hibernate

I'm not a big fan of using hibernate or standby, I've seen it cause too many problems, such as the one you're having. I shut my machine down when I'm done, or let it run if I'm coming back within a reasonable amount of time. I've also seen hibernation or standby create operating system errors or glitches, and premature hard drive failure. If the machine is working properly other than hibernation/standby you should shut the hibernation off and just shut the machine down when not in use. If you're getting this error when using the power button to turn off the computer, then the operating system has glitched or is corrupt and needs to be reistalled. If you need anymore help with this let me know.

Acer Aspire 5630

Seems like your VISTA upgrade didn't sucessfully upgrade itself from XP to VISTA. Seems like M$ update program detects your OS as XP and tries to install the SP3 for XP. VISTA only has SP1 released. Its currently stuck in a loop that it doesn't know what to do. Restart your laptop into safe mode by pressing F8 before the VISTA loading page comes up and go to Safe mode and backup your data and use the ACER RESTORE CD OR ACER RESTORE METHOD to help you reload your system back to factory defaults then upgrade back to vista without install any updates or connecting it to the internet.

This is my best solution to get you out of this weird and unusual situation.

Xp on a vista laptop

I regret to inform you that it is not possible to install XP in the HP or Compaq Notebooks which are shipped with the Vista Operating System. To install XP in your notebook, you need to disable SATA option from the BIOS . I am afraid that there is no SATA disable option the BIOS. Hence, it is not possible to install XP in the notebook.

I understand some of the softwares are not compatible with Vista operating system. But, if you insall Vista SP1 in your notebook. You can also use the software which were not compatible with Vista, after installing Vista SP1.
