Epson printer: print head not moving to replacement position

Hi, I have an Epson Stylus DX7400 printer. I want to change one of the ink cartridges and followed the instructions in the manual, which says "press stop ... and the cartridge holder will move to the replacement position". It did this when I previously changed cartridges but now it suddenly won't move when I press the stop button. The button itself works however, I held it down for three seconds to give the print head a clean and that seemed to work fine. So I am guessing there must be something wrong with the printer's software. Do you know if there is a way to fix this problem myself? Thanks Marianne

Click on Epson, then Monitor status then Properties then replacement. A page will come up saying To get carriage into position click O.K. on this page. When you do that the carriage moves into position and you can take out the old cartridges and replace them

Unplug the printer when the head reaches the point where you can take out the cartridge.
After you have replaced the cartridge, plug the printer back in.
Good Luck.

My printer is not recognising the replacement ink cartridge although I've used these before many times

If you have just installed a new cartridge and you still see an ink related error, the cartridge may be incorrectly installed. Follow these steps to make sure the cartridges are correctly installed:

  1. Make sure the Epson Stylus is turned on.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If your printer indicates that an ink cartridge is expended, press OK.

    • If your printer does not indicate that any ink cartridge is expended, press Setup, select Maintenace, and press OK. Then select Change Ink Cartridge and press OK.
  3. Open the scanner.

  4. Open the cartridge cover.

    Caution:

Never attempt to open the cartridge cover while the print head is moving; wait until the cartridges have moved to the replacement position.

To avoid damaging the Epson Stylus, never move the print head by hand.

  5. Press down all the ink cartridges until they click into place to make sure they are properly seated.

    Note:

If a cartridge is properly seated already, you may not hear a click.

  6. Close the cartridge cover and press it until it clicks into place.

  7. Close the scanner.

  8. Press OK to begin charging the ink. This takes about 2 minutes.

You see a message on the display screen when ink charging is finished.

    Caution:

Never turn off the Epson Stylus while the ink is charging or you'll waste ink.
If the issue persists, it appears to be an issue with the cartridge(s). Contact Epson for further assistance.

How do i get the cartridge out

Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The print head moves to the black or color ink cartridge replacement position, the fontp.gif power light begins to flash, and the fontb1.gif error light begins to flash or remains on. When both cartridges are out of ink, the print head moves to the black ink cartridge replacement position first. After replacing the black cartridge, press the fontb1.gif maintenance button again to switch to the color cartridge replacement position.
