Your clutch needs adjusted a little more. Not releasing all the way.

SOURCE: Ford 2n tractor. Engine turns, but very slowly. Is

you can get a replacement for that starter at most auto parts stores. there is nothing on the N series tractors you can't buy on line, even complete engine rebuild kits and fenders. look for antique tractor parts suppliers. is it a 6 volt or converted to 12 volt?

SOURCE: Firing order for 1963 FORD 2N 163 TRACTOR

As there can realistically be only 2 firing orders for a 4 cylinder engine then it will be one of these two. 1-2-4-3 1-3-4-2 I am 95% sure that on your Ford it will be 1-2-4-3. So give that a try and if it is incorrect then you know it it 1-3-4-2.

SOURCE: Cant read the serial # on 2N ford tractor. How do I find out the

They were only made from 42 to 47, I know you can make the serial number visible using ferric chloride? It is a heavy acid, etches copper fast, and will bring out a stamp in metal. The PD uses it all the time on guns and such. If you know where the serial is, you can read it. I don't know if you can buy less than a pound of the stuff, maybe. If not , let me know, I have a lab here, all kinds of stuff. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2N FORD Tractor Fuel will not flow from tank to

You have a clogged fuel manifold in the carb. This is usually caused by something in the float needle seating area. Remove the float bowl, remove the float and pull out the float needle. Then use carb cleaner in the float needle area to blow out the debris or dried / varish in the float needle seat and the fuel maifold. Spray carb cleaner from the manifold / hose fuel connection and make sure that you get it clean. Then with the float and float needle still removed turn on the gas and make sure you have fuel flow.
Here is a carb kit if you need parts:
http://www.8ntractors.com/carburetor_repair_kit_c545v_1035_prd1.htm (Do a net search for the kit you can get them cheaper than this one.)

I get the feeling that this tractor sat ilde for sometime and your now trying to get it going again. When a fuel system sits for a very long time with fuel the fuel in the float bowl and carb will turn into a shellac and really gum things up. Worst case you remove the carb and soak it in Chemtool B-12 overnight / couple of days then rebuild it using the kit above. (You will be glad that you did!)

You can get a new fuel cap here:
http://www.8ntractors.com/ford_2n_tractor_fuel_tank__cap_343_ctg.htm

Also there is a SCREEN in the top of the fuel sediment bowl that can be caked with gunk. This will stop all fuel flow if it is blocked.

I have spent hundreds of hours on one of these... doing large garden work back in the day and moving hay in several different ways. (Brings back some good memories and makes me ponder where that tractor is today...hmmm..)

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I have an 8N Tractor and the gear broke off of the starter shaft. How do I retrieve the broken pieces out of the tractor?

There should be a clutch inspection plate on the bottom of the bellhousing, take that off and you should be able to fish them out.
