cartridges are hp brand. removed and cleaned cartridges, but still cannot print alignment page correctly. in effect, no change.

    .

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

    did it. no change.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

still does not print alignment page correctly.
blue boxes print, no black, red arrows only.
printer is less than one month old and cartridges are new hp.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

tried # and 9 simultaneously. no change. still cannot get alignment page to print correctly.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

    still no change.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

as stated earlier, the printer and the cartridge are new. the vcartridge was still in the package. guess I just got a lemon printer. WHAT A MESS.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

protective strip was removed. if this is an hp problem, guess i just got screwed.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

cleaning produces 6 boxes of various colors, but no black. i could not find a setting for deep cleaning, just cartridge cleaning.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

how long is a while? held OK and cancel 5 minutes and the printer never turned off.
    what now?

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

    yes. see earlier messages.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

tried all of this already see earlier messages. this is silly for a printer less than a month old.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

still uninstalling software. i just have a 5 year old lap top and it doesn't set speed records. the new cartridges were in sealed hp packages.

  • gopherwjs Jan 17, 2009

black cartridge did not bleed, but color did. must be a bad cartridge. can't do anything today. will have to get another set of cartridges on monday and try again.

  • gopherwjs Jan 22, 2009

OPPered, received and installed fresh ink cartridges from HP. Printer now operates correctly as a copier, but cannot connect to the computer. Uninstalled and installed software disk, and followed instructions as best I understand them. Software runs to the point where it says to connect the printer to the computer. When the USB cable was connected, nothing happened. Followed help

instructions, but no help. Could be a bad cable, but itr is the same cable that worked before this mess started.

    What now?

  • gopherwjs Jan 22, 2009

Ordered, received and installed fresh ink cartridges from HP. Printer now operates correctly as a copier, but cannot connect to the computer.
Uninstalled software and attempted to reinstall from the original disk. Works up to the point where it says to connect cable. Did so but nothing happened. same cable as before.

  • gopherwjs Jan 22, 2009

Installed fresh cartridges received directly from HP. Uninstalled software, and attempted to reinstall. Works up to the point where it says to reconnect USB cable. Did so, but nothing happened. Same cable which worked before the problem happened.
    What now?

  • gopherwjs Jan 22, 2009

still cannot connect printer to computer. please see prior comments.

  • gopherwjs Jan 22, 2009

this has nothing to do with my problem. printer works as a copier. problem is connecting printer to computer

  • gopherwjs Jan 22, 2009

once again, problem is connecting computer to printer. computer works as a computer and printer works as a copier. the interface is the problem.

  • gopherwjs Jan 23, 2009

this is nonsense. the printer/computer combination worked fine before i changed ink cartridges. apparently fix-ya people do not read past comments and solutions. ripoff, for sure

  • gopherwjs Jan 23, 2009

did this long ago. see prior solutions/comments. is anybody reading priors?

  • gopherwjs Jan 23, 2009

test print works on copy. problem is the interface between the printer and computer.

  • gopherwjs Jan 23, 2009

    this is a rip off!!!!

Well, sorry about that, did you try cleaning the metal contact (the plate that makes contact with cartridge) inside the ink carriage using isopropyl alcohol and cotton.

That is one of the first thing to do when you get this kind of problem.

Ok read your hole post. You say you can not get past hooking up the cadle from the printer from the CD. I would try to dounload the software from HP and See if that will get the printer runing again. Here is a link for the site right at the download part.

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=officejet+4500&submit=Go+%BB

If that does not work I would call HP at.

Good Luck and hope it works out for you.

Definitely is defective printer. Being that it is under a month I would return it to the store you purchased it from. If that is not an option you will have to have it serviced by hp under warranty.

You can follow this link to locate the nearest authorized service center and contact them about warranty service. If you need further assistance please let me know, also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.

If you go tthrough the complete printer install, following directions, and the printer still will not print a test page, go to Start|Settings|Printers, and check that the 4500 is listed there. If it is, check that there is a check mark next to it. If not, right click the icon, and slect properties, select Make Default Printer.

Right click again , and select properties, then select "Print Test Page". Once you know this is setup correctly, then go to the HP software and test. I might caution, sometimes when having these kinds of problems, it's a good idea to reboot.

Does your router see the printer (is the printer visible on the network)? Log into your router and check.

I think you've said, but be sure you've loaded all the drivers on the computer you are trying to print the test page from.

The manual is extensive in setting this unit up on the network, so take a look for info there. Let me now what you find on the above, and I'll also try to give you more direction.

    Find the manual at

Being that i dont know whatoperating system you use, if it iswindows, go to the control panel, then printers and fax icon, rightclick your printer then select properties. this is where it will be upto you to look around for things like printing test page, which willallow you to adjust the allignment, and maintaince, this is differentfor different operating systems and printers, so hope i atleast gave you some help.
Other suggestions:

  1. Load plain paper.
  2. Press the Menu button, and scroll to Align Cartridges.
  3. Press Select. An alignment page prints. Once this page prints, your automatic alignment is complete.
  • Load plain paper.
  • Open the Officejet 4500 Series Utility.
  • From the Cartridges tab, click Align Cartridges... . The Cartridge Alignment dialog appears.
  • Click Continue to print the alignment page.
  • On the Alignment Status dialog, click OK if automatic alignment is successful. If automatic alignment is not successful, clicking OK will return you to Utility Main Window.

sorry to hear your troubles. I've just read everything and believe I can help.

To install a usb printer, usually you have to install the
software/driver first, then rebbot, and then connect the printer to
your pc and power it on, windows should recognize the added printer and
      loads its driver automatically.

to check your status go to CONTROL PANEL, HARDWARE AND SOUND, and find PRNTER. Make sure your printer is set as default. You can check all printer settings and connections from here. You may also right-click on printer and go to properties to view full info

When all else fails, replace BOTH CARTRIDGES WITH GENUINE HP cartridges.

If the printer is only 1 month old, why don't you take it back to the store for a replacement printer?

Sit the black cartridge in real hot water, Not to deep just enough to cover the tip probably about 1/2 in will do. Watch and see if the black begins to bleed out. Let it soak for a while then wipe off and try again. You can do the color cartridge the same way it doesn't hurt the cartridge

I had the same problem. After i had installed the printer software once and uninstalled it it would not download software again. I have changed printers since then but i think when this happens something is left on the computer for it to think that the software is already installed. If you use a program like ashampoo win optimizer you can modify registry entries easily. You can delete any entries to that printer that are left there after uninstall. When it happen to me it was like it was overlooking the printer software. Hope this helps God Bless

Make sure the contacts on the bottom of the cartridge and inside the printer are clean, and free from any possible debris.

I've had my share of defective HP cartridges. It's not that crazy to think you might have a couple that are bad.

This question isn't assumng you would do this, but it's a basic question just in case. You removed all of the protective strip from the cartridges, right? It happens.

The blue squares and red in arrow is proper it prints that way only.but as u said no black this is the problem.just remove the black cartridge and give it a brisk in your hand **** it 3-4 times and check whether the ink is coming from the nozzle of the cartridge.it can also be possible that the cartridge not installed properly or the new cartridge is totally dried up can be company fault.or the internall problem in the circuit of the black cartridge that needs to be checked and repaired.

Your problem is with the cartridges not the alignment.

remove cartridges, clean the contacts on both carts and printer.

    re-install carts

Take some of the paper out of the paper tray then pull out the cartridge wipe off the contact points and reinstall the cartridge. And try to realign the printer again once done.

    Posted on Jan 17, 2009

    • machadojr_fe Jan 17, 2009

Look into the paper output tray of the unit as the alignment page is
printing; a blue light should be visible periodically. If this light is
not present, the unit will not be able to align and will require
      service.

If this is a new ink cartridge, verify
that the blue tape covering the nozzles has been removed. Do not remove
the copper flexible circuit with the electrical contact points. If no
tape is present, try reinserting the original cartridge and performing
the alignment process before trying the new cartridge again.

If the unit still will not print, remove and reinsert both ink
cartridges. Verify that the cartridges are the correct part numbers for
      this model.

Clean the ink cartridge. The ink cartridge nozzles may be clogged, or
the electrical contacts may have something on them that interferes with
the electrical connection. If the ink nozzles are clogged, the print
may be faded or have white lines. Use the following steps to clean the
      ink cartridge:

Clean the cartridge with a cotton swab or clean cloth slightly dampened
with distilled, filtered, or bottled water. Unfiltered water may
contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridges

      Remove
any ink or dirt from the bottom of the ink cartridge. Do not touch the
nozzle plate with anything other than the cotton swab.

The ink cartridge may be defective; replace the ink cartridge.

If the issue is still unresolved, replace the ink cartridge that was not previously replaced and try again.

The issue is most likely in the printer, the cartridges are probably fine. did you clean the contacts? how old is the printer?

Every time I turn off the printer, when I turn it back on it prints a test page. How do I stop this?

This problem is caused by not adjusting the printer after replaceing the ink cartridge. You will have to aline the cartridge by printing out a scan page then putting it in the scanner and selecting the lines that line up best for the printer. Once you have done the alinement process it will no longer do this. Every HP I have owned has done this. here is the page to go to to set it up to stop this problem. Hope this helps and thanks for using Fix-ya. Let me know if this helped.

Keeps asking to aline print cartridges yet a printer test page prints okay.

This is normal when replacing the ink cartridges. You should be able to just do the aligment procedure to get rid of this message.

    Will not print blue

Try this I triedi in my printer cartridge which was stuck for a while and only prints in red other colors dont. First you remove the cartridges get a clean dry tissue / towel paper and smudge the cartridge printing heads to the tissue it should give all the colors if not the ones that dont may have hardened. Get warm water (Clean) in a bowel and submerge the printing heads on the water not the entire cartridge to dissolve any deposits then try them again. Hope it works it worked on mine.
