Re: installation problem of windows xp on compaq presario...
Its most likely your hard drive is not recognized by xp because it is a SATA drive. You need to go into your BIOS and set the compatibility mode for sata. or if your bios does not have this option then you need to install the drivers when xp asks if you would like to install any third party drivers during setup check with your manufacturer for the required drivers

Try to install the winXP drivers but before running the installation file right click on the file, choose properties and at the compatibility tab choose for win xp, sp3, hit apply, ok and install as administrator.

Yes when you get a new Operating System you need new drivers for that operating system. Your Windows XP 2 drivers will no longer be valid once you switch to Windows 7 for your Compaq Presario c783tu. Most of the drivers will be automatically installed by Windows 7. You may have little problem with searching for some drivers for Windows 7 which Windows 7 does not contain. In this case you may try to install and experiment with Windows Vista drivers.
Warning: You can severely disable the functionality of your PC if you install the wrong driver. In this case you may need expert help and advice to remove those drivers from your PC and restore the normal functionality.
you mean you need to downgrade your computer from Windows Vista to XP? if so is the case, you need to go to the BIOS in the Boot menu, select IDE from ACPI. put the boot option to boot from CD first or disable Boot from hard disk. then you will be able to downgrade your computer from Vista to XP.
The Compaq Presario 1275 meets the (bare) minimum requirements for Windows XP. It is not advisable, however, as it will run extremely slow and be more of an annoyance than anything. You would not be able to load Vista or Windows 7 on this machine.
This is possible but will take some patience.
Install Windows XP & Service Pack 2
Then check what drivers are NOT installed by going to device manager.
Then go the the Compaq page that lists the drivers for Vista:
Make a note of the name/model of these drivers and search for the XP equivelent usually by visitng the device manufacturers website.
Im sorry this is complicated and long winded but its the only way.
