Question about Brother DCP-7020 All-In-One Laser Printer

Dcp 7020 and 7040 toner life end message premature, need override

These machines always give the toner life end error message well before the toner cartridge is empty. This has been a common problem with most printers. In the past you would take out the cartridge, shake it and put it back in. The printers would work for another 100-200 copies. Does anyone know how to override this error message that stops the machine from printing?

When the Toner Life End LED flips on, requires you to replace the cartridge, even when there's still toner left in the cartridge. The machine detects end of life by shining a light through from one side to the other.
To circumvent the detection mechanism, remove the cartridge and put a piece of masking tape over or jam a little bit of paper into the clear opening/circle on the right side of the toner cartridge, and then pop the cartridge back in. Eventually, you'll start seeing streaks, and then you'll know that the cartridge is truly empty.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I love the internets...

Wow! Thats all i can say. It didn't work for me at first using the masking tape. I had to color the tape with a black marker. It still wasn't working so i covered the remaining clear part and colored it with a black marker and it's working like a charm. Thanx a million

Just so everyone knows... my girlfriend was being a b-word because her DCP-7040 was displaying "Toner Life End" despite her having recently purchased a fresh cartridge. I came to the rescue by using the solution posted above by "hugeboner" and now her problem is solved. It was especially important because she is a school teacher. Thank you hugeboner.

If you purchased a compatible toner cartilage or a refurbished one, ther is a lever on the left hand side of the cartilage. Sometimes, the toner company would not reset the lever back to in the upper right position. Make sure the lever is reset with the lever pointing to the up position. You will need to unscrew the screws to open the gear in order to reset the position.

i did the tape thing AND the reset the trigger thing, and my printer still says "Toner Life End"
there is a procedure after you turn off/on the printer we had to do because even when i went to BUY a GENUINE toner the "Toner Life End" was still on. But my yahoo email deleted everything before July (4 months ago) so I lost the email telling me how to do this. Does anyone know the procedure? Something about holding the clear button while turning on the printer...

The solution to the "Toner Life End" message on my Brother DCP-7040 had to do with a reset gear. The starter toner cartridge that came "free" with my printer does not have this reset gear. When I refilled the toner cartridge awhile back, I didn't pay much attention to the instructions. When my better half ordered the refill toner, the salesman sold her the reset gear for $10 or so, so I had it all the time but didn't know it. It only took me six hours to figure it out! The toner and reset gear was ordered from: http://www.refill-toner.com

You may want to speak with one of their sales people to be sure you're getting the proper part.

Good Luck!

How to reset toner life end message on dcp8060

The counter reset method depends on the cause of the toner life end message and the condition of the newly installed cartridge.
When a USED toner is installed the reset gear is set to IN USE.
When a NEW toner is installed the reset gear is set to FACTORY SET.

My brother DCP 7055 shows eror replace toner

Some Brother laser printers have separate consumables - the toner cartridge and the drum unit. From time to time you may need to replace only the drum unit and not the toner cartridge.

The error LED lights up, or an error message shows on a flat screen panel, when the drum unit is near the end of its working life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.

Error message "put the black toner cartridge back in"

I got this same error message on a newly acquired Brother DCP-7040 that I purchased used off of ebay.

As I was troubleshooting this unit (that I bought untested off of ebay - hey gambling has paid off handsomely for me many times before!), this error message kept popping up.

I checked the COUNTERS (page & Drum life) and found out that the DRUM had 0% life left. BUT, the reason it showed ZERO was because this unit did not have any drum! The toner cartridge (TN-360) needs to sit WITHIN the drum (DR-360) on this DCP-7040 unit, as well as in models DCP-7030, MFC-7340, MFC-7345C, and MFC-7440N.

So perhaps some of these "put the black toner cartridge back in" problems could be related to the DRUM (or lack thereof). A possible tipoff (since the toner cartridge actually does slide into the unit much like other units that do not use Brother's DRUM carrier) seems to be the relative ease with which the toner cartridge slides into the DCP-7040 and really doesn't seem to "lock" into position real firmly.

Toner Life End message on DCP-7040

If your cartridge has a lever on the left side near the rear, it needs to be reset, and there's a lever inside on the left that can stick and cause that error. You need to wiggle and pull that lever until it moves freely again.
