Question about KitchenAid K45SS Classic Stand Mixer

1 Answer

Mixer doesn't turn

The engine is running, but the device that turns the beaters (or the grist mill) isn't turning. I'd like to take it apart to figure out what part is needed and how to put it all back together. I've not been able to find anything more than a picture of the parts on-line. Any ideas on websites or books with the needed information?

My husband got a pdf of the parts and figured out which pins, etc., had to be removed to get things apart. So he took it apart, to the point of opening up the gears, totally covered in shiny black tar. He manually turned each part and everything worked smoothly. He reassembled it and it seems to be working ok, though we aren't sure whether it really sounds exactly the same, and I've not tried grinding wheat or kneading bread yet...my 2 primary uses for the mixer! I'm scared...!

The mixing section has a gap in between

Do you mean the beater is not touching the bottom of the bowl? AS in there is a gap between the beater and the bottom of the bowl so it is not mixing all the ingriedients?
If you have a Tilt-head style mixer, you can adjust the beater/bowl clearance by turning out the adjusting screw. Place your bowl on the bowl screw cap, Place the flat beater on the agitator shaft and lower the head of the mixer so the beater is at the bottom of the bowl. There should be a 1/16" clearance between the bowl and the beater, if the beater is too close to the bowl turn in the adjusting screw, and if the beater is too far away turn out the adjusting screw. The adjusting screw can be located by tilting the head of the mixer back, and in the neck of the mixer you will see a flat head adjusting screw.
However if you have a bowl lift mixer and the bowl is too far from the mixer there are a few different way to fix that problem. If the bowl and beater are too far apart start by adjusting the adjustment screw. On this mixer the adjustment screw is under the head. Remove the bowl, and beater and lay the mixer on its back. You should be able to see under the head a screw sticking out, it does not have a head, but a little slot in the screw, use a flat head screw and adjust the beat 1/4 turn. Put the beater and bowl back on and test mixer to see if it the beater has a 1/16" clearance. If it doesn't adjust the screw and 1/4 turn. If after adjusting the screw the beater and bowl still have too much clearance use a mallet and tap both sides of the yoke arm up evenly until 1/16" beater to bowl clearance is met.
You can use the same dime test in the bowl to make sure you have the correct 1/16" measurement for the beater/bowl distance.

I have a Kitchenaid 550 watt 6 qt. stand mixer model #KB26GIXER. I tried to use it this morning and couldn't get the beater blade to lock in place. Isn't there supposed to be a spring and washer...

There is only one pin on the beater shaft to hold the beater in place.
There is no spring or washer on the shaft.

To Attach Flat Beater,Wire Whip, or Spiral Dough Hook, simply
1. Slip flat beater on beater shaft.

2. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over the pin on shaft.

Beater won't turn, but motor is running.

Hi, Did you push the beater in so that it clicks. If all is good there, gear box maybe at fault or jammed. Take it to a service center for repair. If you are machanicly inclined (DIY) Take it apart and see why its not turning. Good luck.

I have a Kitchenaid Professional 5 Plus Mixer beaters won't turn

It sounds like it has been overloaded and the worm gear has been stripped. You will need to take the head apart to confirm this.

Turntable does not turn. Motor runs. Beaters work.

I have the same one, and the turn table has never turned on it's own. from looking at the bottom of the stand, i think the mixers are supposed to turn the bowl, so i just give it a little turn, and the mixers kinda take care of the rest. BTW, i got 2 sets of beaters with mine and i dont know what the second set is for, do you? contact me at rawemo@hotmail.com

Sunbeam hand mixer. One beater not working

That spring does not turn the beaters. It is part of the beater release assembly. Probably one of the gears is worn.
