Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Garage door blinks 10 times, both sensor lights are off

I've looked for an answer, but not a clear one is listed. We've cleaned the lenses, we've checked the wiring, we've done everything it said to do...the weather recently dropped to 10º (not usual for our area). The door will go down when you hold the button on the wall, when you disengage the door and try to manually pull it down it will not go down. Any suggestions? is it the cold? Do we need new sensors already? Surely not, it's only one year old.

thanks for responding...this problem has been going on for two days now. It got really cold (like 10º) and the temps before that were in the 40's and higher...it's been below freezing until today. Prior to the cold, the garage door worked perfectly with no problems. We raised the door and when I tried to close it, it started the 10 flashes. I finally discovered I could hold the button and the door would close so i did that. the sensor lights are both off. What other info do you need about the sensors. Please elaborate what you need to know. Thanks!

The unit was put in our brand new house in November 2007, it is a "new" unit, I don't know the exact date of it. We have tried pushing the wires in (I don't think they plug in but they might) there is no loose wiring, nothing seems to be out of order. They are not misaligned.

One other thing. The led light (the one above the purple learn button) on the opener itself blinks 1 time every 5 or so seconds...does that help?

Sounds like two problems. you've disengaged the door and you can't manually pull down? try taking arm off door. As far as eyes go, need more info. If both lights out, you have a break in wire or bad logic board. Need more info.

is problem lasting? In other words, if you overheated motor, sensor lights could go out. But after that time, things should return to nornal.

odd that both sensor lights would be out. if they are mis=aligned, one sensor's led should be on. how old is unit. do sensors have plug=-on connectors. tight? check for loose wire at wiring screws or push=in. cold should not be causing any problem, when you hold pushbutton down, you are over-riding the sensors, that is why door closed. this is a puzzler.

first, hold the wall button down and do not let up and the door will close for you. second, one of the wires to your sensors is loose, broken or shorted out by a staple thru the insulation. you can bypass the sensors on a temporary basis while you find the issue, by jumping the sensor connections at the motor.

If the main light is blinking 10 times check your door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Door won't close, blinks 10 times, sensor light yellow

Anytime the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem or the wiring to them. Nothing else causes this symptom.

Garage shuts partially and then reopens and the light flashes.

MOST doors ALSO have pressure sensors that detect the force exerted on the door and shut down if excessive. Broken or weak counterbalance springs cause trips of this sensor and OFTEN one must adjust the sensitivity of them. IF there are adjustments for this, they are on the head motor area.

Craftsman GDO reverses itself when the door reaches the eyes

The only thing that will cause the main light to blink 10 times is a sensor problem. Sometimes the sensors will be misaligned just enough to turn the light on but will not work properly. If you look really close (on your knees) you can see the receiving sensor blinking ever so slightly. Tweak the sensors until the light glows constant.
