Try the following:

  1. Turn off the monitor, do this by unplugging it, keep it off for at least 1/2 hour.
  2. Check the data cable (not the power cable) attached to the back of your PC. If it is see if you can re-seat it. Be careful not to bend and of the pins. The cable will have a black or gray color and may have a molded or metallic head.
  3. Power off the computer to let it reset it's hardware.
  4. If you have another computer, try using it's monitor (assuming the second monitor has the same kind of attachment ie: VGA or HDMI)
These are basic troubleshooting steps
You did not mention the brand and model of system you have.

The screen is turning pink or reddish especially the menu and task bar, the desktop is also red in appearance.

It can be that it is nothing getting all the color signal from the PC, I would check all the pins at both ends of the cable first, or try it with another PC to narrow down the problem.
Please post back what you find, we do not want to open it up unless we have too, and if it is the monitor, the only way to fix it will be replacing the logic board (the board that the video cable is plugged into).

The monitor is going down. If I take out the current and put it back then it works but only for a limited (irregular) time then shutting down again

You may have a faulty inverter board or defective CCFL lamp. A faulty CCFL lamp may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering and/or with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. Usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter board can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Reddish picture when power on, screen flickers and then shuts off after 1 or 2 minutes

The red or pink color indicates one of the backlight tubes is failing. Only solution is to replace the bulb or replace the unit.

My monitor on my Dell laptop went completely black while I was on it. I have tried turning it off and back on, and the monitor is not working at all

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out; usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Pink Screen

The reason its pink has two possibilities one is that you have a bad cable and needs to be replaced the second and most likely is that the backlight bulb is going out on you and will need to be replaced. When backlights go out things look pinkish reddish and then just go out all together.

If this helps please rate fixya

Hi...Brye,

Well... you've fixed the inverter problems, but another problems has pop-up...It's seems you probably burnt out the chipset that contains the bios. That's why the screen turned white... cuz no information in the bios. You'll need to updated the bios or just replaced a new AD Board. Have fun...Good lucks!

Monitor wont turn on, just green flashing light.

double check that all yor connections are tight. Open your PC case (unplug it) and ensure that all your fans are clean. It appears that your problem is due to loose cable connections, but this may be a good time to do some computer spring cleaning.
