Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Door will not work in cold weather.

I have a Craftsman 3/4 HP door opener. It is less than 2 years old and in cold weather (Less than 40), when you hit the button, the light will flash but the door will not rise or lower. I live in Dallas and it does not get severly cold, but this is the second winter that this has happened. Once the temps get above about 40, the door works fine. Please help.

Thank you for the information. I will try to make the adjustment. I notice that it is set on the lowest (1-9). Of course it is warm today so I may have to wait a few days until it gets truly tested.

I waited until the next cold snap and tried the adjustment. It didn't work. I tried it at a setting of 3 (out of 9) and then worked it up until I had it at the highest setting. The door still will not close in the cold weather. I am stymied. Thank you for trying.

I had the same problem with the cold and the garage door not closing. What I found that works is holding down the button to open and close the door. If I do this - the door will either open or stay closed when I let my finger off the button. Try this and see if it works for you.

Leave car outside. Seriously, try a little more force to force adjustments.

does it close manually ok? Try checking rpm interrupter cup. Is it push on tight (Behind logic board, take off 4 screws, tilt board and push on black cup).

I have a problem with the hand held remotes working on my garage door working

Look at the opener to see if you can see the small wire dangling form it. That is the antenna. Stretch it out and point it down for maximum range.

On down door reverses in cold weather

A garage door guy says that in colder weather the weather stripping can become stiffer, less pliable, causing more drag or friction on the door. You may need to increase the down pressure a bit. If it's set in the normal range, try increasing it a little bit at a time, but don't max it out.

I have a 1/2 hp Sears Craftsman Garage Door opener about 18 months old when operating the remote within 5 feet or less of the opener the opener works properly. Upon exiting the Garage about 10-12 feet away...

The difficulty is determining if your remote or the receiver is bad. If you have another remote that works as it should then it is the remote. If you just have the one remote there is no way to tell which is bad.

I have two Sears 1/2 hp garage door openers. Cold weather problem

Very strange they both have the same exact problem. I would suspect something with the brackets is changing. When you are having this problem and the light on the receiver unit is not lit, tweak them a bit and see if it comes on. The odds of the logic board in both openers having the same thermal problem is just too high.

Garage door wont close in cold weather

find force adjustment on logic board and turn clockwise A LITTLE to increase down force. Try to stop door. You do not want TOO MUCH FORCE as that is a SAFETY HAZARD.

1/2 hp craftsman garage door opener won't open when cold

I called Sears garage door customer service number due to the same issue. The test is to disengage the opener drive by pulling the emergency disengage handle, then open the door half way manually and then let it go. If it stays there it is a door/track/lub problem; if it drops down and closes its a garage door opener problem. Mine stayed open half way during this test so it was a door/track/lub problem. After using silicone spray on all tracks, rollers, and springs mine has been working great. Good luck.........
