Sony Vaio Micro Computer Black Screen with lines at Startup

I turned on my computer for the first time in two months and it gave me a black screen on the left side and color vertical lines on the other. I can hear it operating and booting up but can not see anything but the black and color vertical lines..What is happening, The only way to power it off was to remove battery. I have n't used it much but I just loaded some music on it. I hopeful its a simple fix.....HELP!

Either of 2 things.
1. The ribbon cable that connects the screen to the board may have become loose. If you have tools it should be a quick fix.
2. The screen is smashed.

My sony laptop turns on but screen is black

Black screen on startup with an amber flashing light A flashing amber light along with your black screen on startup can be a few things.

  1. Not enough power getting to the motherboard.
  2. A dead power supply.
  3. A bent pin or shorted out USB port causing a problem.
Computer black screen after installing new hardware Often when computer users install hardware in order to upgrade their own computers they run into problems. If you have just performed an upgrade and then get a black screen, the answer is obvious. Some hardware components may not be compatible with the others in your system. And of course there is always the risk of static electricity damaging your components when you are not an experienced computer repair person.
You might just be installing a new piece of RAM but the best way to troubleshoot this is to go back to where you started from. Always start from the beginning. If your computer was working and you installed something, then take it back out. Think about what you are doing and try again.

Black screen with curser

It is what is called the "Black Screen of Death (BlSod)/(KSOD)" if you are using Vista or the later Windows 7. There are many causes for the BiSod/KSOD... some may say it is due to Micro**** updates and patches or as what Micro**** claims that is is due to malware infection, most likely something from the Daonol family of Trojans.

Google for it or I'll share you this site to give you some insights of the BiSod/KSOD.

here's one of many you could read:

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/183502/three_tips_to_avoid_the_windows_black_screen_of_death.html

For a fix you may follow these steps:

After the black screen with cursor appears, press the shift key several times (5 to 10 times). A window should appear that reads “Go to the Ease of Access Center to disable the keyboard shortcut.” Click on that item, then follow these instructions:
  1. In the explorer window that appears, clear the address entry and type MSCONFIG then press enter. Run MSCONFIG.
  2. Uncheck the two items in selective startup and press apply, then restart the computer.
  3. The computer should start normally. Now click the Start button and type MSCONFIG again, then press enter. Uncheck Windows Event Log and Windows Event Collector, then restart the system.
This may or may not work on your state but your last resort is to extract your hard drive and back-up to another unit before re-installing your OS.

Hope this helps. Don't forget to rate.

3 month old Sony Vaio notebook keeps turning off by itself, won't even last more then a couple seconds to a couple minutes, tried system restore and defragmenting, and disk cleaning...still nothing!! could...

Try on the BIOS/System Setup and check if its turning off there as well. To entere there, start your computer up, and when you see the Vaio logo press [Delete] several times. You will see a blue screen or black with information of your computer, leave it there for as long as it takes to shut down, if it doesn't then please let us know.

Cannot start Sony VAIO PCG-5J2L /Goes to black screen only

During start-up the computer will go to a black screen for awhile and then the pointer arrow will show alone, and then the system will come up.

If you think it's a hibernation problem, pull the ac plug and battery out for about 1 hour and then plug back in.

If this didn't work, then try the F8 Key and choose "Last Know Good Configuration".

SONY VAIO notebook freezes on xp splash screen every 2-4 mos.

first, ensure your system restore is turned on and make a restore point right now!...assuming you have run a thorough disk check and de-frag. then, trust the system restore. I have used it with success 100% of the 20 or so times I have used it. Next, start using the "Hibernate" power down mode. I have found this to work wonders with third-party driver problems. It seems that once a good startup happens, then freeze it (and continue to get a good startup) with hibernate from then on. Last, check about every month for the quantity of restore points that have taken place automatically by Windows. Sometimes, depending on the size of the hard drive, too many points can begin to encroach on your free space that you want for virtual memory or data. So for example, I see 15 restore points in the last month, I will dlete them all by cancelling system restore. Then I use "clean disk" scandisk and defrag. Then I turn restore back on.
