You have to take the top of the dryer off so you can see the drum to see if the belt is broken or the motor is bad

My Whirlpool clothes dryer model GEW9200LW0 stopped drying completely. The drum turns but no heat. It began slowing down the heating process approx. 2 years ago. Any suggestions?

Electric Dryer Does Not Heat
  • If your Whirlpool electric dryer is having trouble heating, you should check all of the thermostats, the thermal cut-off, all fuses and the electric heating element for continuity and proper connection.

My dryer is producing heat but is not drying, i am drying the same size load i usually do on the same cycle. the lent is cleaned out, and the oustide vent is blowing hot air. why are my clothes not getting...

make sure that all the seals are ok, door, front and back drum seal, blower housing seal(inside dryer). also consider that depending on washer type if you overload or have a worn drive belt in washer it will take twice the time to dry. also make sure that the dryer drum tumble. open door, press door switch and start dryer to see if drum turn. lastly disconnect vent pipe behind dryer and dry a load. if it dry ok then you have a partial blockage. you can also have a weak heating element.

Dryer heats clothes but does not dry them

Check the following:

Since you said the dryer heats....

Make sure you have the dryer set to the correct cycle, and not delicate or air only.

Make sure the drying cycle time runs for the set period. If not, the timer may be faulty.

Make sure the dryer is tumbling (the drum is turning). If not, you may have a drive issue like a bad or broken belt, or some other mechanical drive issue.

Make sure the lint screen is clean and the dryer exhaust all the way to the outside of the dwelling is clear and not obstructed with lint or anything else. If you don't feel a pretty good beeze coming out of the wall discharge vent, start looking for a plugged vent.

There could also be an exhaust fan issue with the dryer if the vent line is clear. If this is plugged or not working, the back of the dryer will need to be removed and the cause(s) determined.

Make sure the dryer isn't overloaded and that the clothes aren't too wet when they are placed in the dryer, possibly pointing to a spin dry issue with your washing machine.

My whirlpool dryer will turn on and it still

It could be the belt or the motor. You should be able to determine which it is with the back off.

Whirlpool dryer WED5530SQ0, heats but does not run

So,. basically your drum doesnt turn. SO your getting heat still even though the drum isnt turning. Is this right? Sounds strange??? Do you hear any humming noise when you push the start button? I need to know a little more about the problem because im kinda confused as how you decribed the problem. Iv never seen a dryer heat but the drum not spinning. especially your model dryer. Its electric heat right? because if the drum doesnt spin, maybe your motor is bad. and if your motor is bad, then your heating element wont heat up because the centrifical switch in the motor is not switching to complete the circuit to the heating element. So this is why im confused when you said" Dryer heats when knob turned but when "push button" pressed, drum doesnt run." Because your belt wraps around the motor pully and the motor is what makes the drum turn. Like i said, i never seen this model dryer heat with out the motor operating. So if you can give me some more info, ill do my best to help you out....Thanks!!!!

Runs and heats but will not dry

Fist need to know if it is gas or electric dryer, it makes a difference.

If an electric dryer, It is possible that one of the heating elements has failed (burned out), which would still allow the other one to get hot, but not enough to completely dry the clothes during the normal timed or automatic drying cycles.

You can check this with an ohm/amp meter if you are comfortable with working around 220V-AC voltage, etc. You'll need to remove either the rear cover, (if your unit has rear access) or the top of the dryer and then the drum, to gain access to the electric drying elements. This depends on which model you have and how old a dryer it is, etc.

Once you've done that, you can sometimes see a broken drying element, if not, you can check for continuity with the ohm meter (make sure the power cord is unplugged!).

If you are unable to determine with this method, you can restore power and briefly put the dryer into a timed dry cycle (drum and drive belt removed, while you visually check for heating elements turning red/orange as they heat up. Only do that long enough to confirm which element is good, be very careful, as they get extremenly hot. Once you know which one is bad you can order your replacement by model number , etc. Hope that helps.

Dryer does not release any heat

Is yours the gas model? If so I need you to look for some things. Open back door panel and see if while trying to light the igniter is glowing orange. Sea Breeze
