Question about Briel Domus Due Espresso Machine & Coffee Maker

LEAKING DOMUS DUE

My Briel is leaking from out of the bottom. I first suspected it was the water basket, but it doesn't leak when I remove it. My best guess is that the leak is in the plumbing or pump.
The tool required to remove the screws is some manner of torx with a post in the center. Any ideas where I can get said tool? What its called?

Mine also leaks from the bottom, but when i left the water tank filled and lifted up, it still leaked, so i think it IS coming from the water tank. where can i buy a new one? i cannot seem to find any information about buying spare parts on the web.

    thanks!

I hope someone figured this out, because i'm having the same problem. although it also seems water is not getting to the brew head. pressure comes up when i turn on the pump, about 13 bar in fact, but little or no water comes out of the head. now when i take the screw out of the center of the brew head water seems to flow freely with no pressure registering. i recently moved and the machine was in my car in sub zero temps for a week or so. i'm wondering if water froze in the feed hose and ruptured it?? i'm nervous to do any self repair because it voids the warranty, but if anyone out there is familiar with the problem I could definitely use some help. thanks.

I used to have a water leakage too. I solved it by first running a full tank of water mixed with 2 espresso cups of white vinegar after installing an empty coffee basket and ran the machine until the tank was empty. I also opened the hot water and frother valve a couple of times to clean that too.
Once the tank was empty, I removed it and pushed and released that little valve at the bottom of the water tank a good 20 times to make sure it sprang back properly. I then refilled the tank with ordinary water and ran half of it through the empty coffee basket and opened the frother and steamer once again to rinse everything from any vinegar residue. I refilled the water tank once again and snapped it hard in place.
Guess what! The machine doesn't leak anymore and I'm in love with it once again. This is a very sturdy espresso machine. There is no need to create bugs when they don't exist. Simple good care should do the trick. :)

Such tools can be purchased at Ace, Lowe's or homedepot.  I had to purchase one to get into my tivo and the hardest part is getting the right size.  you might try taking an impression of the screw with clay or by a rubbing with pencil and paper..

Leaking from the bottom after removing something that got stuck in the spinning peace

Check a couple things.
Use paper towel and see if top of disposal is damp or wet. The basket strainer might have come loose and water is leaking down.
Fill sink and then release water all at once and check strainer basket and dishwasher hose.
Check where tubular pipe connects to side of disposal. Sometimes this joint can leak, and then water appears at bottom of disposal.

If top of disposal is dry and tubular pipe is not leaking, then disposal is suspect.
Disposals rust out, and dislodging something from cutter plate can open final crack.

If basket strainer is leaking, and disposal is older than 5-8 years, you might consider new disposal since disposal has to be completely removed to reseal basket strainer. See link below for basket strainer steps.

If it comes to this, I wrote tips for installing new disposal

Briel Apollo no water when making espresso

Check that the water tank is seated properly. When you lower it in place just give it a little nudge down to make sure its slotted into the catch.

Espresso maker not workin properly

Your Brew Head screen and/or filter basket might be clogged with coffee oils. You can soak both pieces in a product that removes coffee oils from either www.urnex.com or Dezcal brand. Coffee shops will do this once a day. If you have the filter basket with the screw in the middle, you will need to remove the screw and soak everything as it can clog also.
If that does not work (it should tho) you can contact the Briel service center at:

Leaks From Filter Gasket

Sounds like you might have coffee oil build up. I would suggest soaking the Brew Head Screen and filter holder in a coffee oil remover by www.urnex.com or dezcal. Remove the screw if your filter basket has one. For home use it would be good to clean this every week or so. You can email me for more info: irene@smithagy.net. You also might just try purchasing a new filter basket (along with cleaning the Brew head screen and new basket).

Try opening the frothing valve by turning the dial and force water through it instead of steam by pressing the middle, coffee button. You may be experiencing vapor lock. Once the water comes through the steamer valve, turn the steamer knob off and release the coffee button. Then try the steamer button with the steamer dial open. This may do the trick.

Espresso Machine

Possibly, if it is leaking from the bottom only, and if you have a Domus Due model, you might just need a new water reservoir as the water reservoirs are a different system than all of the other briel machines and a new reservoir will usually fix the problem of leaking on the bottom in the Domus Due machines. Something with the seal on the reservoir.
You can order just a water reservoir by contacting the service center at:

If your machine is leaking over the filter handle, brew head etc, that could be the coffee oils have built up in the Brew Head Screen and/or filter basket itself. For that, remove the Brew Head Screen and soak along with the Filter Basket in a coffee oil remover (not descaler) you can get the Cafiza powder at www.urnex.com or any other brand and then use a brush to clean it after soaking. If you have the Briel filter basket with a screw in the middle, please remove the screw and clean in there as it tends to get clogged. Then just be sure not to screw it too tight again as this can cause leaking.
I hope the info was helpful.
