Question about EPoX EP-8KDA3I Motherboard

1 Answer

My 2themax mpotherboard EP-8KDA3I displays FF on the board while it runs but does not show anything on the monitor. I originally had a 512 DDR1 RAM and tried to put on 2 more RAM each 1GB. Was that what was causing the problem?

Thanks for your comment. It's probable that my motherboard does not support all 3 at the same time because after trying different module combinations, I received FF shown on the motherboard with only the original 512 MB installed. It represents normal functioning right? However since I am not sure if my monitor is also functioning properly (it's been unstable for quite a while), I cannot tell if it is really back working normally. So showing FF should mean it's working but probably it's the monitor's problem I cannot really tell, is that correct?

Hi.

Most probably yes, if it started happening after you installed new RAM modules. There are to possibilities:

  • one or more of RAM modules is faulty and will need to be replaced or removed
  • the motherboard does not support this layout of the modules which means that you will have to remove 512 MB module
I suggest you remove one of 1 GB memory modules and see if it works. If it does, than put it back and remove the other 1 GB module. If it works again, than motherboard does not support having one 512 MB module and two 1 GB modules at the same time.

Monitor cannot display anything that is not sent to it by graphics adapter, other than OSD. So if you're seeing "FF" and other codes on the monitor, that's motherboard doing some tests. If it halts at "FF", something's not right and it stopped running or is running in a loop, constantly showing "FF". This can be only motherboard, processor or memory failure, but most possibly motherboard, as it is running internal tests. These tests are common on some Intel motherboards, not sure for Epox though.

I understand that "FF" is shown on the monitor, but reading your post I am not sure anymore. Can you explain this "FF"?

I am going to upgrade ram to 1 gb. can i use ddr2 1 gb ram to upgrade .motherboard is microstar model ms-6526 ver: 2 . present ram is ddr1 400 MHz, 512 MB

If your computer has two RAM slots on the motherboard, i would recommend trying it. The computer will run on the 512MB stick alone and just not recognise the other stick. And if it works it works.

I have searced for support documentation and came up with none for the original MS-6526

I run my original version MS-6526 on a 512MB PC2300 (DDR1) and a 512MB PC3200 (DDR1) and it runs just fine for games and videos.

Personally I would recommend trying the DDR2 first and if that fails, return the card and get a DDR1 card. They are expensive, but at least they work.

I have an asus k8v-mx motherboard running only 512 mb of ram what type of ram would suit this mother board and could i fit a 1 x 2mb ram instead of 2 x 1mb?

Dear Sir,

*********** board is Asus old p4 Mother board. It supports maximum 1GB RAM of DDR 400(DDR1). According to your post your computer having only one 512 MB working RAM. If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.

good luck

There are many beep codes listed here:

What is "FF"?
Obviously, this sounds like a video problem. Is this a new build? Any previous problems?
Is there a video card?
