Question about Apple MacBook 13"White /2.0Ghz Intel Core2 Duo White/2GB (2x1gb)/80GB/SuperDrive (Z0DT) Mac Notebook

Non start up macbook - only get folder with ? on screen

So I start up with the install disc and go to Utilities to repair HD, but it doesn't show up in the utilities repair window. Does this mean my HD is shot or are there other reasons why it doesn't appear in the utilities window? I have tried all the different start up options given in the mascbook user's guide without success. I can't re-install OSX because the HD is not found (I guess). HELP!

If the drive fails to show up in the utilities then you will need to replace it. If the drive is in working condition it will show up in the utilities.

Ok
when u power up the computer press s"del' F2 or F5 or any key to enter in bios.
then check your ahrddisk detected or not.if not then disable sata option.then save settings.

Hi I'm getting the black screen of death. How do you perform a hard reboot on the Mac?


Try this fix. Unplug the computer and remove battery. Wait two minutes. With computer unplugged and battery removed, press the start button and hold it for one minute. This will clear the power management system. Insert the power supply but not the battery and start as normal. I would run the permissions repair and disc repair from disc utility. Also I would run Disc Warrior to repair the HD system folder. Insert the battery any time after the machine starts and runs properly.

Cant open my macbook pro forgot the master password what can I do???


Applications Folder, Utility and look for Disc Utility and use it to change the password. If that does not do it, then use the Recovery Disc and reformat the HD and start over.

Im getting a folder with a question mark


boot from an install or system CD, after selecting english the next page has a menu along the top, select utilities and then disk utility, if the HD is ok it will show up when the daisy or beach ball stops spinning, if it does not you will need a utility like disk warrior, if there then select repair disk, when this has run select repair permisssions, this is slow. when done go back to utilities (you may have to quit disk utility and open the utility folder again and select start up disk, your HD should show up, select it and restart. if this fails you have to try am archive and install.

The disc will eject if you start with the clicker pressed (same with a mouse) the machine is OK but cannot find a viable OS boot from a Cd and in the top menu find the utilities folder, in there find disk utility and if the hd shows up select it and select repair disk, if that runs select repair permissions, then go back to utilities and find start up disc and select rour hd and restart

My Mac Book will only go as far as a blue screen with a folder flashing a question mark. What does this mean?(also there's a ticking sound near the DVD drive when i first start up)


The DVD ticking sound is normal and happens every time you power on. The blue screen of death is not normal. The flashing question mark means corrupt start up file. Re-install the operating system or insert disc 1 of your gray install disc and go into disk utilities and select repair permissions. Then select repair hard drive.

Our MacBook doesn't do anything but stay on a white screen that just shows that apple going around in circles in the middle of the screen.


You got the rainbow spinning wheel of death, which means take out the RAM chips and re-insert. Now try. Nothing? Replace the RAM chips with RAM chips you know are working. Now try-Nothing? Install disc one of the install disc Apple gives you and go into the system utilities and repair disc permissions and also click on repair disc after that. Now try-Nothing? Replace the hard drive and re-install the OS. Now try-Nothing? Your fu.kd my friend, which means you got a logic board problem.

Hard disk crashed on macbook


You can tell if your hard drive for your Macbook Pro has really crashed, if you attempt to run these 3 diagnose and repair procedures and there is no response from the hard drive:

1st Procedure:

Start up your computer in Single-User Mode to reach the command line by doing this:
•Make sure your Mac is shutdown.
• Reboot your Mac
• When Mac starts up, press the Apple Command key+ S Key
- A black screen, with white text appears
• At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
• Press Return.
--fsck will run through a series of tests and will return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. When completed, it will display this message if no issue is found:

The volume (name_of_your_Mac_volume) appears to be OK

If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message: --FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED--

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed at the beginning, until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).

• When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
• This last command after completing the fsck process, is going to attempt to boot your Mac to the main desktop.

If unable to reach your Desktop with the fsck procedure, go to the next step.

Procedure # 2

-RUN DISK UTILITY WITH STARTUP DISK-

Insert your Mac OS X Startup disk
•Reboot your Mac
•At the Apple Chime, press the C key and hold it until you see a White screen, gray Apple and eventually a Spinning gear.
• Release the C key only after you see the Spinning gear.
•Mac will boot from the startup disk to the Installer environment
• From the Installer Menu bar, click Utilities > Disk Utility and open up Disk Utility application.
• Click on on the hard drive at the top of the window in the left sidebar and
• Select "Repair Disk"
**Let Disk Utilities run this repair the disk until completion
• At the end of this process, reboot your Mac

* If you have still not gotten a successful boot to your main desktop, try this final step.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Procedure # 3
My recommendation for this issue, is that you use the Archive and Install procedure to resolve this issue.

What this process consists of (using your Mac OS X install disc),is removing the damaged or corrupted Mac OS X directory and replacing it with a brand new directory.

This procedure also allows you to save your applications, files and folders without the old directory interferring with you then accessing those files.

-ARCHIVE AND INSTALL-

• Start up from your Mac OS X Install Disc 1 or Install DVD. Please remember to use the install disc that matches the current operating system your system haves.

Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key.
• Hold the C key until you see a White screen, with a Gray Apple icon and eventually a Spinning gear.
• Release the C key only after you see the Spinning gear.

-Your mac will now boot from the disc and load into the Installer environment.

• Select your language. The Welcome to the Mac OS X Installer window appears.
• Click Continue. The Important Information window appears.
• Follow the prompts until you get to the licensing agreement screen
• An agreement sheet appears. If you agree with
the license agreement, click Agree. Then Select a
Destination window appears.
• Click the volume that you wish to install to (your primary hard drive).
• Click Options. The installation options sheet appears.
• Select Archive and Install.
• Select the volume which already has Mac OS X installed.
• You should also select Preserve Users and Network Settings, to preserve network and Home directory settings.

• Click OK.
• Click Continue to begin the installation.
• Once the Archive and Install is completed, when you reach your desktop be sure to run all Software updates to bring your new Mac OS X directory back
up to current.

Also, if you look inside your Macintosh HD icon on your Desktop, look for a folder entitled "Previous System Folder" which will have all of your previous Home folder files prior to the Archive and Install.

If there is still no responsiveness of the hard drive after this last procedure, your best option would be to take your Macbook Pro in for repair or replacement of the hard drive, to your local Apple retail store Genius bar or local Apple authorized service center.

Flashing question mark means that the Mac cannot find the operating system due to corruption of the hard drive or system boot up files. Install your original install disc 1 and press and hold down C to boot from disc. Then go into the disk utilities folder. Then click on your hard drive in the left box, and then click on repair disk permissions. Does it boot now? No?? Hook up to another mac by firewire to your computer. Then press power on your computer and hold option key while powering on the other computer. The other computer's hard drive should show up on your laptop screen. Select it and then press the right arrow. Then you can drag and drop your files into the other computer. Get you a new hard drive and re-install the operating system.

Your macbook is not locating your hardrive.
turn off your laptop, insert the Mac OS disc in the drive, and then reboot while holding down the c key to allow it to boot from the OS on the DVD.
Then use the disk utilities application from the desktop menu and to a disk repair on your hard drive and then restart.

When i try to log into my macbook...


try checking your disk / disk permissions (note:to verify disk you must start from the os x cd at the top of the screen click utilities -> disk utility->repair disk)in the finder window after login you can press command N (apple key and N key at the same time) open the applications folder and find the utilities folder open utilities folder and double click 'Disk Utility' select the disk you wish to repair from the list on the left and click repair disk permissions (note you should back up important files before performing any disk repair utilities) also if you cannot log into the finder you can simply insert the os x disk and hold the C key down after the first boot chime this will start from the cd drive (which may take a little while)
