Question about Computers & Internet

Screen Problems Hi I currently run a HP Pavillion with windows 98. Recently when I boot up I get a screen like the "safe mode" screen but without the safe mode writing. I have no mouse and I can still access the internet and most programs. The layout of my screen has changed however as have all the colours. When I start in safe mode I have a working mouse but I can't seem to find any way of fixing the problem. All help gratefully accepted!

It sounds like you need to install a video driver. You'll want to go to www.hp.com, go to their support section, and download the driver for your particular PC. As long as you know the model number of your PC, you should be able to find it.

Keep in mind that Win98 driver support is harder to find lately - you may want to consider upgrading to a more recent and better-supported OS eventually.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

How do you put the computer in safe mode on a HP pavillion?

If I remember correctly, for Windows XP:

Click on 'Start' at the bottom left of your screen
Click on 'Run' - should be on the right side of the Start menu towards the bottom.
A box will appear at the bottom of the 'Start' menu. Enter "msconfig" (without quotation marks), and press the Return/Enter Key.

A new window will open with several tabs. Click on the BOOT.INI tab to open that, and click in the square box first on list by /SAFEBOOT. There are three variants of safe mode. For now, choose 'Minimal' (click in the circle by that word). Now move to bottom right of the MSCONFIG window and click on the 'OK' button. Now the window will close, but next time you Restart/Start your computer it will be in Safe Mode (font will different, and it will say 'Safe Mode' at the four corners of the screen).

Sir i have hp compaq cq40 laptop having win xp .it got effected by some virus . whenever i try to boot it it gives error in some blue screen nd stops processing without booting up windows

Try starting the laptop in SAFE MODE.

To do this turn it off and wait 20 seconds. Then press the power button to restart, and as it is starting up press F8 every second or so until you get a screen that offers options - one of these options is to start in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. Select this option and the laptop will start up Windows in SAFE MODE. The screen will display in low resolution (Large icons etc.)

From here you have the ability to run anti-virus software and diagnose problems. If you don't have anti-virus then try downloading MalwareBytes (google it) and run that - it is a free virus and malware detector.

If your machine will not start in safe mode you may have a hardware problem.

HP Pavillion dv9000 will not boot up in normal mode, only safe.

Have you tried an XP repair?
Then you can save your data .
XP repair
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your Applications or data; it just reinstalls the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Computer not working correctly

Right click My Computer, left click Properties, left click Hardware, left click Device Manager. Left click Display adapters. Right click your adapter and left click Properties. This should give information as to whether the Display adapter is working properly. In Device Manager check other hardware that has a Question Mark"?" or Exclamation Mark"!". You may need to re-install some Drivers. Win 98 had Driver problems.

How to restart hp pavillion 7965 desktop

Hi there. Try these steps:

1. On restart, press F8. This should bring you to a screen with various boot options.

2. Select "Last known good configuration". Windows then may load correctly.

3. If this doesn;t work, try the same thing. This time select "boot in Safe Mode". If Windows now loads in Safe Mode you should be able to restart and Windows may load correctly after this.

4. If these two both fail, you may have to repair Windows...

Pavillion laptop is not booting.

Try to boot the notebook with F8 Key. (Safe Mode)

Also try to go into the BIOS setting and change there --> Power and Boot Priority.

For BIOS try: ESC, DEL or F2 keys.

HP Pavillion 9000 Display Problem

Hi i seem to have solved the problem using a seperate display and running in safe mode, using safe mode i was able to run "spyware doctor" and "reg edit" both found problems, spyware doctor found a trojan in a hidden folder with a deep scan that took over an hour and a half, it was critical and could not be identified,
Regedit had backup files and found 200 problems that it fixed i changed the PC to start in default configuration and then restarted without the external monitor and all seems ok

Try removing the battery, plugging in the laptop and trying again. Else it appears to be a power supply issue.
