Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer
In addition to having the ink system failure error 0xc18a0001, my
printer screen also read improper shutdown. After trying most of the
above solutions with no success, I did a search for the improper
shutdown problem. This is where I found my solution!
The solution is under "Printer will not start" the solution post is by speters9971. "...you can try a sem-full reset to factory default conditions by 1. unplugging the power cord while the printer is powered on and 2. press and hold the OK and Cancel buttons while plugging in the power cord."
This is what solved my problem after hours of searching & repetitive similar solutions!!! The above solutions did not help; some of them seemed to be incomplete or irrelevant for my model. I have a HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One.

My all in one was eaten alive by lightning. However during a conversation to ressurect my unit, The service rep from HP told me to power down and then when powering up the unit press the "9" and "select" buttons or the "9" and "options buttons smultaneously and this will clear the memory entirely. Sorry about the 2 choices but it was a long time ago and thousands of questions ago...lol. Thank you, Dana

I have the same problem
printer hp 3210 oll in one
I was a crossroads to either ditch the printer or try and fix it. I am glad I tried to fix it. The problem that I experienced was similar. The problem is that the gear that drives the pump may have fallen off (as in my case.)
If you are willing to take a chance take the printer apart. Dissconnect the power.
Remove the screws from the scanner area.(6 + 2)
Remove the pivoting top and take care of the ribbon cables and wire connector.
Remove the side and back plastic covers
Remove the power supply
Take off the two screws that hold the ink pump (white)
pull out the pump and reinstall the gear.
May need glue but I did not use it. Reattach the belt.
Put the machine back together
Do a soft reset
You will be back on line
If this happens again I will glue the gear in place.
Time to fix having never done anything like this before was one hour. Next time it should take less than 30 minutes now I know what the pattern is.
