Remove and if you have a way to buy the same part or the same degree temp. limit switch do so... or call on a hvac trained tech to do so for you...apparantly your switch is broken...or your filter is very dirty causing a retriction in airflow causing your switch to open for starters...Lazgo

Furnace flashing open high limit

Hello, A limit switch will open when the furnace overheats due to low airflow, . check air filter, clean blower wheel, and check to make sure the blower wheel is running at proper speed and not dragging sometimes cause by a weak capacitor. Anything that restricts airflow will cause a limit switch to open.

Blower motor runs but furnace won't light indicator light says limit switch open. where is this switch. Tappan furnace

There may be two or three limit switches. The main limit switch is found over the burner about 2 " above. It will look like two wires connecting to a small rectangle plate. The limit is actually inside the heat exchanger and often opens if the air filter has not been changed or cleaned. Also on the burner assembly, there may be one or two small round disc shaped switches about the diameter od a quarter. They will also have two wires connected to them and they probably are connected to all the limit switches if you follow the wires. Look closely at these switches for a small tab located between the wires connected to them. This tab is a reset. Push in on the tab to reset. You may actually feel or hear the switch resetting if it opened. Make sure all registers are open and good air flow through the furnace.

Goodman dependable 92,7years old. Furnace works sometimes. Checked out by qualified technican. no problem found. Constant checks shows troubleshooting light blinks three (3) times. Help please. 3...

This indicates a open limit switch on the furnace, the heat exchanger is getting to hot therefore the limit switch is opening and not allowing the furnace to work properly. Did the techinician check the limit switch on the unit?

My red light on circute board flashes 3 times and heater does not start up i just replaced the ignighter

Is there 3 blinks followed by a 2 second pause? if so then you have a open limit switch on the furnace, a limit switch opens when the heat exchanger gets too hot. If you have a meter check the continuity through the limit switch if its closed you should read resistance if it's open the meter will read OL.

PSE+G stated the problem was diagnosed as a pressure swith on my Goodman heater....any suggestions to fix? Is this an expensive job?

How do you test a pressure switch and other limit controls? This is for people who are experienced with electrical equipment and the use of a Volt Ohm meter. *Please never by pass a pressure switch or limit control. The pressure switch and limit switches are there for your safety. If you have an open limit control either the furnace has over heated or the limit has gone bad. Problems that would make a limit open up would be dirty filters, dirty evaporator coil causing a restriction in the air flow or a slow blower motor (check the capacitor on the blower motor to make sure it is good). A weak blower motor capacitor will cause the blower to run slow and eventually fail. Pressure switches, and limit switches can be tested with a meter in the same manner. With the furnace calling for heat you can test each of the terminals on the pressure switch to ground to make sure the pressure switch is closed. You should be getting between 24 to 28 volts from each terminal to ground if the pressure switch is closed. If the pressure switch is open you either have a stopped up vent, drain line (if you have a condensing furnace) or bad pressure switch. Please keep in mind there are many different types. The front terminal is burnt and discolored. This is a clue that this pressure switch has a problem.

My Goodman GMP 125-4 furnace has 4 blinking lights and we currently are unable to get it to come on. What might be wrong?

if this is an error code and you mean that the light blinks 4 times then it is the limit circuit. This could mean either the high limit or a roll out switch is open. the limit switch is right in the center of the furnace above the burner and roll out switches are probably somewhere around the opening of the burner. Follow the wires from the limit to find a roll out switch cause they are in line with each other and the rool out switch could have a button to reset it. However if the roll out is not tripped then you could need to change the limit. Only way to know is to check for continuity.

I have a goodman and the light had blinked 4 times on the code it say open limit switch but now its not getting any power I check the board to look at the fuse and its good I just don't know why it...

Not sure if this will help, but when you take off the blower door there is an interlock switch...could this be the reason you lost power?

If you have an open limit, the easiest way to find it is to go to each of the limits, disconnect the wires (spade terminals) and see if you have an OL reading on any. Reconnect the wires after checking the switches to avoid mis-wiring. If it is your high limit that was open, chances are it has cooled down and will fire up now, but at the same time if it went off on high limit you may have a blower/air flow problem.

Remember that safety devices are there for a reason, so if a limit opened, check for the problem before just assuming a bad switch.

Hope this helps

Open limit switch

Tjere is a limit switch that will only allow the durnace to reach a certain temp by kicking on the fan. The thermostat being unable to read the temp affects its ability to keep the furnace from exceeding your settings. *Advise not to use until corrected. Both limit switch and thermostats are inexpensive and simple to change. If in doubt, call a heat and AC tech to repair.

Limit Switch

It is rare that a limit switch goes bad. It is a safety control. If it is shutting off your furnace there is a problem that it is protecting you from.
If the limit switch is shutting the unit down your furnace is overheating. Check the filters. Check for any obstruction in the blower assembly. Check to see if you can raise the blower speed. Make sure all registers are open in the house. Your evaporator coil could be obstructed if you do not take good care of your filters.
