Setup di524 - using va wireless internet connection

I want to setup a wireless printer using my computer. Don't know how to setup / connect router to computer. Am I missing something stupid.

Thank you. My confusion was over I am not using the router to send an internet connection around my home/office. I only want to send print information from my computer to my printer that already has a wireless receiver.

I simply plugged in the di 524 and my computer immediately detected this router and I connected to it. Since I don't have the printer with me at this time, I cannot see if the printer will also detect the wireless "network" from the router. If it does, I will simply connect the printer to this network ans ee what happens then.

I have another good question that I cannot find answers from Verizon or Dell.

I use an internal wireless card to connect to the internet wirh Verizon. I want to be able to use this verizon connection - which has it's own telephone number, to send and receive faxes using the fax software existing in my new Dell computer. Any help on this one??

Hello... not at all. You can pick up a manual with setup instructions from the D-Link site, and there are some tips which will help you set up the router there as well. You will need to use a wired (ethernet) connection to set up the router.

    Good luck...

Hello again!

You're welcome to any help I can offer, and I fully understand the potential for confusion. To set up the router itself requires a computer, since this is the only way to 'talk' to the router....but to set up the wireless printer, only the manual can really help, since every one has differing setup requirements.

Concerning your second query, this needs someone with wider expertise than I have - you might wish to post again with this, or perhaps contact one of the top experts directly for faster results - eg 'ziraffa'. (see home page).
Good luck with solving this issue.

Dlink DI524 wireless problem: cannot access the router

If the Router is new proceed to Step 1. If the Router is used power on and press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds. It is located next to where the power cord is plugged in. Use either a pen or paper clip to push reset button.

Step 1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port located on the Cable / DSL modem and the other end to the WAN port on your D-Link DI524 wireless Router. The WAN LED light will illuminate to indicate proper connection.

Step 2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to LAN Port 1 on the back panel of the DI-524 and the other end to the network adapter in the computer you are using to
configure the DI-524. The LED light for LAN Port 1 illuminates to indicate proper
connection.

Step 3. Once all pieces ar connected. Open your Web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 into the URL address box then press ENTER. Once the log-on pop-up screen appears type admin for the user-name and leave the password blank then click ok.

Step 4. Once you have logged in, the Home screen will appear and you should see a box called RUN WIZARD in the middle of the screen. Click that box and follow the steps.

Setup Step 1 - Click Next
Setup Step 2 - Create Password and click Next
Setup Step 3 - Choose Time Zone and click Next
Setup Step 4 - Setup wizard will try to auto-detect your Internet connection type.
Setup Step 5 - Select your Internet Connection. You will be prompted to select the type of Internet connection for your router. More than likely it will be Dynamic IP Address. Click Next.
Setup Step 6 - Click the “Clone MAC Address” button to automatically copy the MAC address of the network adapter in your computer. You can also manually type in the MAC address. Click Next.
Setup Step 7 - The default wireless settings for your 802.11g wireless network are: SSID = default Channel = 6. You can change the SSID name to whatever you like. This will be the name of your wireless network. Click Next.
Step 8 - If you wish to use encryption for your 802.11g network, the DI-524 is capable of two levels of wireless encryption - 64-bit and 128-bit. By default the encryption is disabled. You can change the encryption settings for more secure wireless communication. If you choose to use encryption, you will need to write down the encryption key so that you can connect your laptop or pc via wireless connection. Click Next
Setup Step 9 - Your is complete. Click Restart to save and reboot your router.
Setup Step 10 - Click Close to complete your setup.

Setup Step 11 - You will be returned to the Home tab. Close this window and wait for the Router to finish rebooting. Then relaunch your Web browser (i.e., Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator), to link to your favorite Web site to test your Internet connection.

Connecting with internet

Yes, that is possible since you have a wireless router. Router can share internet connection. Go to this link this will help you setup the wireless connection (secure it if you want)

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/wireless/Dlink/DI-524/wireless.htm then on the very bottom there is an option how to Configure Windows XP to connect to your wireless network.

I suggest this because it would be better if there is encryption on the network so people wont be able to access your internet for free (unless you give them the security key)
