My Mac was connecting to wireless fine and now won't connect?

Try rebooting your network, which would involve powering off, powering on your cable or DSL modem, and your router. This should refresh your networked devices with a new set of IP addresses. Usually, when you can't connect to your wireless network, it's due to an IP address conflict.

I knew you were gonna say that ;)

Most linksys routers are picky when it comes to macs. You'll want to visit linksys's support page and download and install the latest.

Should solve the problem.

Airport connection says Connection Timed Out.

I don't think this is a problem with your macbook, it is probably a problem with the wireless router that is broadcasting the connection. Try restarting the router and connecting then.

My macbook wifi card connects sometimes and not others. It is always cutting out at inconvenient times.

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:
  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router:Mfg. suggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the router may cause conflict with other routers within your network range. Mfg. suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I bought my daughter a laptop (elonex onet) but i dont no how to put internet on it thanks ceri

You have this in the Mac Laptops category, but it's not a Mac. This laptop is running Linux.

The Elonex ONEt has wireless Internet connectivity. That means you can use a wireless router in your home in order to use it online. If you already have one, the system should be able to set itself up to use that connection on its own when you open a web browser. The web browser on your system is BonEcho/Firefox.

Another option is to run a Cat5e, also called an Ethernet cable, line from a router (or from your cable modem or DSL modem) directly to the laptop, since your laptop also has an ethernet port. This looks like a regular phone jack, but it's a little bigger.

Best of luck!

Internet connection problem.

If you have a macbook, it should have 802.11n, which gives you a 50ft range. Your linksys is probably the wireless G, which gives a 30ft range. Pull the power cable from the router and put it back in 5 secs later. Notice if you get flashing lights on the activity displat on the router. Linksys is the consumer side of Cisco. Ive seen those linksys routers blow in rainstorms. You may need to have to plug the computer to the router with an ethernet cable and reconfigure the wireless.

Let me know.....I can assist you in resetting the router.
