Acer aspire one netbook won't completely start

It turns on, all lights indicate that it is functioning. the aspire one logo pops up, which is routine, and then the screen goes black and the cursor beomes an X....and that's all it does.
last time i had used it, about 4 weeks ago, it worked fine, i used it and shut down, as usual.
and now i get an X.

  • oneswanson Jan 17, 2009

i tried to restore it to factory settings it didn't work. aspire one series do not have dvd drives installed.....they are netbooks only, everything else has to be used via a usb port....
    no recovery disk....
i have been reading that i have to buy a recovery disk and a dvd and reboot the system this way...
somehow the wifi became corrupted....all of this is completely uncertain to me...i have no idea what to really do...

Well I know the Asus Netbooks allows you to make a restore disc on a flash drive from another computer with a DVD drive. Don't know if Aspire you can do this too.

I dunno... sometimes there is a key you can press to restore the system to the factory state, or there might be a CD/DVD that came with the computer. Does it tell you a key you can press on the boot screen?

Sounds like you are running under Linux. And it sounds like your Linux is corrupt.

If your linux is corrupt which is a possiblity, you would need to go into recovery mode and try to fix your installation, however if you have a system disc that came with the machine you could always try to re-install the OS most linux distro's will allow you to select your old OS and import the settings from it during an install. However I would only do this if you cant recover your installation.
DId some research, if you are using linpus linux which comes with the ONE, then it is a fedora based OS, which means you should be able to import your settings from the prior installation during a fresh installation of it.

I hope this helps, since linpus is pretty new I am going to do some more reading on it.

I've got me self a brand new aepirw onw notebook, but i dident install itself poperly, so now it wount start up... is there any way to start the complete instalation from start aga

Assuming the netbook still powers up, and that you are just having problems booting to Windows: switch the netbook on then, when you see the Acer logo, press and hold the Alt and F10 keys at the same time. This should start the factory recovery facility. You can then allow the netbook to reload from scratch. Make sure it is connected to the mains, and wait for it to complete the installation, which may take some time.

I want too restart my aspire as in backto zero, i cannot connect to internet

Not sure what you mean by back to zero. If you want to restore it to its factory default condition, then do the following which will not only clear all user data but remove any malware or viruses. Before starting the procedure, make sure the netbook is plugged into its AC adapter to ensure the restore to factory default condition proceeds to completion without being interrupted by low battery.
1. On power-up while the Acer logo is showing...
2. Press and hold down the Alt key then press the F10 key repeatedly
3. Screen should then indicate starting the Acer eRecovery Management environment.
4. Wait until eRecovery has loaded and its menu asks How would you like to restore
5. Click on Restore system to factory default
6. Once retore is complete, the system will restart Windows for setting up its configuration

I pressed f10 lots of times and my internet just stopped working ,i wanto reset my klaptop to factory settings please can u help

All Acer netbooks have a factory install image on a hidden partition of the hard disk. Suggest you should re-install the original windows xp factory image. All user data on the C: drive will be cleared by Acer eRecovery which you would start up as follows....
1. have the netbook connected to its AC adapter which is plugged into AC power line
2. power on the netbook and watch the screen as it starts up
3. when the acer logo is showing, hold down the Alt key and press F10 repeatedly
4. until screen indicates Acer eRecovery is loading
5. once eRecovery is loaded, follow the directions given on the screen

I have acer aspire 3002lci . I want restore factory settings. I won't have recovery cd.How to do? i had done with alt+f10 it doesn't work.

The ALT+F10 routine should work if the ALT key is held down and the F10 key is repeatedly depressed before and during the Acer logo display.
If you still have a working M/C then the recovery routine can be accessed from START / ALL PROGAMS and selecting Acer Empowering Technology and then Acer recovery Management.
This might differ a little because you have a netbook
