Question about Stoves Monessen Variable Thermostat Controlled Forced Air Blower Heater

1 Answer

Flame goes out Monessen Ventless fire place Model DLX24.

After lighting the pilot and turning on the burners the flame goes out in about 10 minutes. I have cleaned the unit and have no problems lighting the pilot. This has happened about 5 times so I dont think it is a gas problem.

I have the same problem with the pilot and flame going out. The pilot lights fine, then it goes out after 10 minutes. I was just wondering if the cleaning of the pilot with a needle worked for the other person that wrote in with this same problem.

My Monessen ventless heater does exactly the same thing. I was just wondering if the other person that had this problem was fixed with the needle in the pilot to clean it out.

Take a needle and put it into the end of the gas pilot hole. Wiggle it around in there, it just might have dust build up in there. Hope this helps ya.

I have a VC Wonderfire model 2610. The pilot flame is perfect blue on both sides... however, when I hit the switch for the main burner to come on...the pilot goes out... any ideas ???

You may have moved the safety sensor or pilot flame tip. The pilot light heats a wire. The wire is the safety sensor. The wire has to be clean and in the pilot flame near the flame tip.

Janitrol GUPS075-3 Furnace burners will not stay lit

The first thing I would do is make sure the flame sensor is clean, this is a metal rod immersed in the burner flame on the opposite side of the igniter. If too much oxidation builds up on it, it will not allow the burner to stay lit. To clean, just turn off furnace and remove flame sensor and clean with steel wool and then reinstall. If this does not solve the problem there may be a problem with the gas valve.

I have a ventless heater. The polite will stay lite, but when you turnit on it will only stay lite for 10 to 15 minutes then goes out polite and all

The odp pilot is probably dirty and causing it to shut off due to a false 'low oxygen' situation. Turn the unit off and let it cool completely. Have a drinking straw handy. Locate the opening for the pilot light and use the straw to blow a stream of air across the top of (not into) the pilot assembly. This will create a small vacuum and pull the small particles of dust out of the pilot head. Re-light the pilot light. Note that it should be much stronger and 'bluer' than it was previously. Turn the heater to 'on'. If this does not solve your issue, I would replace the thermocouple. Hope this helps.

My patio mushroom heater lights up ok but keeps going out by itself after about 5 to 10 minutes and then can be started again inatantainiously by starting pilot light and away you go until it goes out...

Hello,
Here's a few things to check. When you light the pilot, is it a strong blue pilot flame, a weak blue flame or a lazy yellow flame? Is it heating the thermocouple enough to make it red hot after a few minutes? If the pilot is small blue or lazy yellow flame, it may be dirty and need cleaned. When the burner lights, the weak pilot flame may diminish causing the thermocouple to cool off enough to shut down the main burner. Clean the dirty pilot orifice by using a can of compressed air with attached straw. (The same canned air you use to clean computer keyboards) Blow it into the pilot assembly where the pilot flame burns out from and blow thru the air holes on the side, if applicable. You might also check the thermocouple itself to make sure the tip is not partially burn't off. It should be a smooth, rounded tip. Replace the thermocouple if cleaning the pilot orifice doesn't solve the problem. Douglas

Pilot light won't light on ventless fireplace

Ventless Gas logs, Vanguard, VS30PR. Propane gas
Pilot light stays lit various times, sometimes for several days then other times for a few minutes. Lights best when temp outside is below freezing. Pilot flame appears to receive too much air. How do you adjust the pilot flame? Is this done using two screws marked A & E? Do you have suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

Pilots lites , holds ok for minutes, but once move

Hello KJGreen, It sounds, based on your description, as though the thermocouple is faulty and should be replaced. If the pilot light stays lit and you've left it on for several minutes before turning the knob on to light the log set, then that indicates that the thermocouple is bad.

The thermocouple is a safety device (heat sensor) designed to stop the flow of gas to the burner in the event the gas flame goes out and the pilot goes out. The sensor will only allow the gas valve to open once it has reached the preset temperature.

To confirm that the thermocouple is defective, I would light the pilot light and allow it to remain lit for up to 10 minutes before I attempted to turn on the log burner. If, after 10 minutes, the log burner still won't stay lit, then you know that the thermocouple needs to be replaced. Otherwise, the burner should light, since after 10 minutes, the sensor should be hot enough to signal the gas valve to open.

If you are going to have this replaced, please make sure you use only an approved supplier, since an incorrect replacement part could cause an unwelcome malfunction of the gas log burner. Safety should be primary when dealing with open flame burners.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

I have a Intertherm furnace model MMHA with United tech controller 1018 HSI. Flames starts up , fan runs but flame goes out and restarts after a few minutes. Keeps doing this, I don't see a proof of flame...

Maybe. There has to be some sort of flame sensor with this HSI module. Look on the wiring diagram for where it may be. If this model has a pilot that starts before the burners, it may be part of the ignition electrode or glow bar. If the burners just light, look at the far end of the burner box to make sure the flame is traveling down the entire length and hitting the sensor. If you find it, clean it off with a small tooth brush. Blow out the flame rail where the flame travels from burner to burner. Clean off the pilot assembly if it has one.
