Question about Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS Receiver

Map Mileage Option

On an interstate or turnpike, is there an option to display the total number of miles until the recommended Exit. Currently there's a long list of steps (eg. Rte 95, 2.4 mile, Rte 95, 4.1 miles........, etc) that ultimately total the number of miles to the recommended Exit, but the list can be quite long. I would rather it list Rte 95, 97.2 miles to Exit 42)

I have a 4210 here in Canada . Mine will do the same thing but I noticed that the distance each of these small (waypoints) is the distance to next lane transfer (at time maps were written) turn off or intersection. I don't think we can do much about this except sit back and enjoy the ride or rewrite the software. Did you try Magellan's customer service to see if there is something for your unit. I'll look for mine

How to find the route instruction on tomtom go

Assuming you already have specified where you wish to go, and the device shows the map (of your current location) on the screen,
you can touch the screen to see the MENU screen ... then look for (on the Menu screen) a browse map option, and you'll see the route (to your destination) displayed.
If you're looking for a list of turn by turn text instructions, e.g. turn right to XXXX street, go for NN miles, etc. you may not find it displayed on your TomTom device.

Convert kilometers to miles

If your question is how to display the distance information in miles, instead of kilometers ... it is a setting option you can change.
Touch the center area of the driving screen to view the menu ...
Tap on Change Preferences ... and move to the screen (near the end) to Change Setting
Tap on Set Units ... and get to and select Miles
Then finish/exit ... and all your distance units will be displayed in Miles

It is a 50 mile trip to airport, all is interstate. The 4350 exits off and then back on 7 times. It should never do this.

I'm not sure which gps you have, but some have traffic built inside of them. The getting off and back on is them trying to provide a shortcut to avoid traffic. Again, i'm not sure which gps you have, but you have the option to avoid this and stay on the interstate

How do I use coordinates? I entered map coordinates and it took us to the wrong place.

Some Tomtoms can use latitude and longitude coordinates. They refer, of course, to points on the map.
To use coordinates on some tomtoms you tap the Browse Map option. A general Map of the route is displayed. The screen has three buttons at the bottom
  1. Options
  2. Find
  3. an icon for the point on the map.
  4. Done
Tap the Options button: The Map detail Preferences appears, offering the choice to put a check mark in POI, Favorites, images. At the bottom of screen you have 3 buttons : POI, Advanced, Done.

Tap Advanced: In thsi screen you can put a checl mar on Names, Markers, and Coordinates.
Put a Check mark on Coordinates and press Done, Then Done again until you exit all those options.

Now your tomtom is configured to display coordinates. Be aware that GPS technology was created for military purposes and its civilian uses cannot be expected to offer pin point accuracy. It took an act of the US president to allow its use for civilian localization.

When you plan a route you can use longitude and latitude. Here is the icon you should like for.

After using my TomTom for about 10 mins. the screen fades then is black. It will come back on if I tap the screen. the voice still can be heard. Can this be fixed ? If so how!

It can usually be fixed and tends to be just an option in the preferences menu

Touch a regular map display once

Now touch the Safety Preferences once

Press Done until you see the Turn Off Map Display

Select NEVER

Select DONE

Select DONE one last time to return to the map.

Hope that was of use

The unit has stuck on a location miles away

If you were panning the map while navigating, the map on the display will stay where you panned to; despite the fact that you are still moving. You need to exit "pan" mode by pressing the PAGE button (right side, top button). Good Luck.
