That's the answer to your problem. The format error happens because the format of the song is not compatible with your mp3. So try downloading songs in mp3 format instead. Nothing's wrong with your mp3, it's just that the songs you're putting in it aren't compatible with it.
The manual for a 4Gb slicK player states: turn the power switch to "on" and hold down the play/pause button until the unit powers up. You can also power down the unit in the same way, (while leaving the switch in the "on" position).
