Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5300 All-In-One InkJet Printer

15 Answers

All prints are purple in colour

I have cleaned the heads (deep clean), calibrated my Kodak Easy share 5300 several times and despite all this all my 6x4" prints have a strong purple tinge. The prints are clear although occasionally some horizontal lines are also visible. The printer is just over one year old and its very frustrating that I cannot do much about the prints

Hi, removed my Kodak EasyShare 5300 setup program as suggested and reinstalled the latest from the web. The purple colour is still there just as before. Is it possible that I have a dodgy colour toner?

  • wivantso Jan 19, 2009

Did everything Ekse suggested, no difference. Will go and buy new ink cartridges. Very possible that the ink is not what it should be. The printer is working well but everthing is colour purple.

    Thank you for advice

  • wivantso Jan 20, 2009

Will buy new cartridges. Nothing seems to help. Should I change the black ink cartridge as well?

  • wivantso Jan 21, 2009

Thank you for your comments. However, the photos tested were made by three different cameras, Sony Cybershot, my son's expensive Canon and my wife's Canon digital IXUS 960. The results are always the same. I will buy a new ink cartridge (will need one soon anyway) and if that doesn't work, I will go to Kodak for advice on how to adjust the cameras. Will keep in touch to let all you helpful guys in the know.

  • wivantso Jan 22, 2009

I think you are right. I have just replaced to colour cartridge with no change from purple. Next is the printhead. If that doesn't work then I will think about getting a different photoprinter.

  • wivantso Jan 22, 2009

To Dipu 007. A few comments for you sir.

    1800446699 is disconnected

I read quite a few reviews (more than 20) where it appears that printing with 5300 may depend on the quality of the printhead. I would like to know where I could get a new printhead and also how to remove the old one seems to be a problem I would appreciate an answer please

  • wivantso Jan 29, 2009

Rylie Smith's same comment has now come up about 8 times.I assume that he needs a response.
I am about to get a new printhead. So far I have cleaned the ink cartridges, then replaced them, deep cleaned the printhead 3 times, took it out, cleaned again but the purple has stayed on. Hopefully the new printhead which the Kodak people have very kindly sent out to me will work. I will know tomorrow when I will install it. will report on it. Thanks for all the comments.

I hate to tell you the bad new is that the print head will have to be replaced. the only other thing that comes to mind is , if you can take the print head out of the machine, you can soak the head in 100% isopropal alcahol for 24 hours. heard that it works some times good luck

Wecome to Fixya! Remove the Print Cartridge, just get a flashlight, there will be a little and I do mean little button at the very to of the tray. you almost have to put your head into the printer to see it. Push that button up firmly but not try not to be to rough with it, lets face it this is a sensitive printer.
Pushing this button up will release the tray, and you will be able to pull it out. You can get the Print head from the Kodak Customer Service Line Posted Previously.

The problem is either a printhead problem or a circuit board problem. If you do not have an extended warranty, your only option to test the unit is to purchase a new printhead. If the problem continues, the manufacturer will need to repair the unit. Wish the feedback was easier to bear. Good luck.

When was the last time you bought and installed new print cartridges?

Even though the ones you have may not be used up, or the ones you had on the shelf were new 6 months ago, doesn't mean that they have not dried up.

Change your black ink cartridge and if it is new check the expiration date, when the black ink level gets low some printers use color to substitue for it which comes out purple.

Hi!

Sounds like the new cartridge has been sitting around for too long. The solid lines are usually due to the drum being exposed to light for too long. The other reason could be the charger roller has been in contact with drum (in the cartridge) for a very long time and probably heat has a part in it as well. Try another cartridge.

Clean the printhead (with the 5300 printer do it from the main menu, with the 5100 printer do it from the home center.)

Calibrate the printer.

Print a demo sheet.

If you have success, Voila.

If not, please call Kodak support at 1800 421 6699.

You need to get new KODAK brand cartridges ... First and then do a deep cleaning. If you still experience the "purple" tint .. the printhead(s) need replacing.

You need to call KODAK @ 1-800-421-6699.. They may have you do a deep cleaning and a few other processes but they will get you the printhead ,, It may very well get replaced for "free" but I do not know your exact circumstances.

A firmware update can fix similar problems on other make and models, however, on Kodak Easyshare printers this is not a firmware problem, as it happens quite often, and it is related with clogged printhead.
Also reinstalling the software and drivers wont help.

The problem usually starts when printheads dry out completely, often after a period of inactivity, and deep cleaning head/nozzles usually is not enough to dissolve the ink on the printeads' orifices.

The regular procedure to fix this is removing the printhead and soaking it in isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution.

An easier solution for the home user can be refilling a cartridge with a 30% isopropyl alcohol solution.

Some user also reported a successfully maintainance by using cleaning wipes to clean the printhead.

That is not what it is usually done at the repair shop, but often it works, follow instructions here.

Also call Kodak at the number listed on the owner manual, or see Contact Us.

As long as you used kodak original cartridges, this may be considered a factory defect, and you can be entitled to a free replacement from Kodak.

Do not waste your time, I get a Kodak with same problem once a month, fix the printheads.

Call Kodak , and they will confirm what I said, many posters here are just trying to guess, sometimes it helps, but not in this case.

Call Kodak, insist for a replacement, if you do not get a replacement just try cleaning the printheads or replace printheads.

    See my previous comment.

That is because you have a defective printhead, I fix one like that every two weeks.

If you call Kodak they will tell the same after asking you to reinstall drivers, power cycle printer etc.

Replace printhead, or complain with Kodak and if you are lucky you can get it replaced for free.

This is the camera not the printer. Some camera's trend torward blues or greens. Yours clearly tends towards blues.

You need another image editor that will have a function tha tis or is similar to Auto Adjust. That should fix the tine issue and then they will print okay.

If you want to explore a firmware update, the one you want is for your camera.

You can also setup most cameras to adjust for tint trends by using the color adjust menu functions if your camea has one.

So, with this explained. My suggestion is that you need to use the Auto Adjust function in the intermediary photo editor and probably make some adjustments for color in the camera setup. If you have none seek a firmware update via Kodak for your camera. You download the firmware to your PC and copy the file to your memroy card and then use the camera funtions to apply the update.

Best bet, call Kodak on the phone, by using the contact numbers in your manual.

Regrads,
Worldvet

Time to have a printer pro come on site specifically to Calibarate your Printer. It requires a software program but those of use who are old school know how to do this the old fashioned way.

It did this for a Professional Photographer who won a Best of Show two months later.

I was wondering if it does this with all the programs you print from or just kodak?
I would try an adjust the print settings for best quality and set it to print on same exact paper you use to print it.
If you've tried as much adjusting as possible and it is the same results from every program you use, then I would suggest buy NEW ink cartriges. You really get what you pay for when it comes to ink. Just let me know if you need any further assistance.

You had stated you had clean the heads. I was wondering if by chance you moistened the pads under the cartridges after cleaning?
My only other solution is to uninstall and reinstall your software and color profiles.

Make sure that the ink cartridges are intact and securely inserted into the printhead, then try to print again.

  1. Lift the printer access door, then remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
  2. Verify that the label on the ink cartridges is intact, and the cartridges are not damaged.
  3. Insert the ink cartridges into the printhead, then press down firmly until you hear them click into position.
  4. Close the printer access door, then try to print again.

Next

Clean the printhead, then print a demostration page Close Window
If necessary, use the arrow keys to view the demo sheet.
all prints are purple in colour - 5000_demo_sheet.jpg

  1. Verify that inkjet paper is loaded in the paper trays.
  2. Press Menu.
  3. Select Clean Printhead, then press OK.
  4. Select Deep Clean, then press OK. The On/Off light flashes green during the cleaning procedure.
  5. When the On/Off light glows a steady green, select Print Demo Sheet, then press Start.

Has the print improved?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Might the Kodak 5300 needs a firmware update? Of course as in any flashing/firmware upgrades, make sure of reliable continous power and a stable computer.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

While it is possible, it would be unlikely. My initial post suggest a firmware upgrade although performing a re-install eliminated the possibility of a driver issue.

Printer will only print in purple/pink,enstalled new colour cartridge configured as required, still no change. help thank you

Print out a calibration sheet, either from the menu, or press photo and cancel at the same time. Your calibration sheet is probably missing a color. You should have black, blue, yellow, and magenta(pink). If you're missing any of these colors, your printhead is clogged. Try doing a printhead cleaning. Print another calibration sheet, if the color is still missing, you need a new printhead. Call Kodak.

Kodak told me to take the printhead off and reseat it several times, which I did. I then deep cleaned it, calibrated it, and replaced the color cartridge. It didn't solve the problem. Kodak will replace the printhead for free, and after I return the defective one, will send me a free color and black cartridge. Very nice service. I've been very happy with the 5300.
