Question about IBM ThinkPad T30 2366 Notebook

1 Answer

IBM t30 battery does not charge

My IBM T30 runs on AC power, but not battery. I downloaded and installed all the power drivers from IBM. When I check battery status on the power management screen, battery 1 appears as a dark blank on the battery status screen, not charging. I figured the first battery was bad, so I got another and the same problem occured. I have the BIOS setting setup for the battery. Could the problem actually be the lithium battery instead, or is it just a bad power connection to the battery?

Re: IBM t30 battery does not charge

The problem could be the internal battery charger board ( a small daughter board that plugs in the the motherboard) has gone bad. You can check out this site to: Ray

I lost my recovery Cd. Where can I buy it?

If you cannot purchase a Recovery CD from IBM/Lenovo then you can download the device drivers from their WEB support site.
To restore your T30 back to the original Windows beg borrow etc a Windows installation CD. This CD must match the Windows version on the label on the bottom of your T30, it also displays the Product Code and this is used to install Windows on your T30.

Follow these instruction to download and install the T30's device drivers.
The same model ThinkPad can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver.
When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it’s file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive.
Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: -
You can download the various drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they will then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install the various drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

Ibm t30 laptop has no video at start up

Try doing a hard reboot.

Unplug AC and remove battery.
Press and hold POWER for 30 seconds.
Plug in AC.
Turn on.
Upon bootup insert battery.

If this does not work I regret to say the graphics card is busted.

IBM T30 - power issues

You might try cleaning the battery compartment. Makeing sure there are no damaged pins. Often times even a single messed up pin will cause this. Also this is a very good indication of adaptor failure. If you haven't allready I suggest getting another ac adapter specific to you machine. Even a substitute will casue the same issue you are now experianceing.

T30 2366 8GA After removing AC Adaptor battery icon shows Charging and working on AC

there is a switch in the plug end to the back of your comp its like a little swinging door that when you unplug out of back of comp this switch engages battery now if you unplug just from wall its going to see these 2 things the doors not shut but i have to keep working so it sets aside the plug still recognizing it of course but running off the battery trying to still find out why the powers not there but the plug is still plugged in and it will continually search until it reaches its falt point of dead battery
its like a battery backup for your system it gets unplug but wants to know where the power is

now in reference to the little swinging door i call it its a power over relay in your comp for some reason its not closing properly to allow battery to run by self
this is usually just a switch that needs adjusted in the motherboard configuration

Ac adapter problem

Buy a new T30 adapter off ebay, they are cheap enough and you could probably get OEM if you know where to look.
